Is there somebody here who went to CHINA to help people for the China Earthquake?

I think that China has adequate resources to deal with the Earthquake and their military have been praised for their promptness in dealing with the aftermath. From what I have seen on the news, they have reacted brilliantly, unlike the Junta in Burma.

Did you know they pulled someone else out alive at the weekend? He is 80 years and had been trapped under his house, unable to get out because he was already paralised. His wife had been feeding him until they were able to remove the debris.

The UK does have a rapid response team, but it is not easy to get onto it. You have to have some sort of skill that is appropriate to the disaster. I enquired about getting onto the team after the earthquake in Izmit, but was rejected as I did not have the right skills.

Just an update. The death toll is now 68,800 with a missing number of 19,000 people. About 14 million people need to resettle, among whom are those urgently evacuating from danger of flooding.

Yes China is helping itself. Yet when seeing for example the orthopaedic surgeons cutting limbs 24 hour non-stop in the first week after the disaster, doctors from other provinces, and also Hong Kong and Japan were rushing to the tragic cities to help resolve the urgent need of surgeries, medical care and epidermic control. Now they are in great need of specialties in installing artificial limbs, rehab, psychiatric treatment and coping with all possible contagious diseases. Rainy season and hot summer season are coming and thus make the suffering people's situation worse.

Do remember all these people and the army and the rescuing personnels, local or from overseas.

I think China has dealt with and is still dealing with the aftermath brilliantly. I heard today that more people have been evacuated because of a lake that developed because fo the earthquake could burst it's banks. The recovery process will take many months, and possible years and I am sure that other countries will do their best to help.

I agree Ninja, we should commend all those people that have assisted in some terrible conditions to help everyone.
