Hello all,
Hope we are all well? just thinking when myself and Nesrin travel to the U.K. in September I might bring my car back with me, perhaps driving it to Turkey. What would I require apart from a international driving licence, I was thinking of Nesrin as we would travel through different countries would the visa situation occur for every country we travel through?

It just seems silly to have a car in the U.K. not being used very often when we could easily drive it to Turkey when we travel back from the U.K. any thoughts?

Some interesting thoughts on bringing a car into Turkey!

HERE

Doesn't sound too promising though :-S

Uhmm Sounds a bit negative, but how about trying each of the embassies of the countries you have to go through! Really I don't see a problem with driving through the EU countries until you reach Turkey. Sounds quite exciting to me and the sort of thing I would probably have a go at!

I can't answer your question, but maybe you can look into buying a new car in Turkey and sell the one you have in the UK. As far as I know you can buy it taxfree as a foreigner, which makes it really cheap considering taxes are extremely high in TR. But you should look, ofcourse, for all the details and conditions, because there could be some 'small letter' stuff.

It's a shame UK isnt in Schengen, it would make it so much easier for you.

Too bad our old member Lyndie is not here because I think she drove from the UK to Turkey.
One question though - aren't British cars a little different because of the side of the roads you drive on in the UK?

Several options for bringing a car into Turkey. But I will say buying a "foreigner plated" car is the easiest option.
When I bought my first vehicles here, foreigners were required to drive cars with green license plates. Thank God they don't do that any more. Can you say target???

Anyway, one way is getting an ATA Carnet. It is simply documentation saying you are bringing your car in and will be taking it back with you. It is not possible to sell your car in Turkey with this option. You can keep the car in Turkey indefinitely this way.
If you see a Red Ford Excursion in Istanbul, chances are its mine. I think mine is the only one still!!
