The only criterion I apply is "Do I have anything to talk to this person about?"

If it's a man - is he sexist/objectifies women?
If it's a woman - is she a feminist?

This tells me whether these people are smart and open minded or not.

It depends on for what purpose I'm meeting or talking to that person. If it's very general, then I'll say "politeness" is the number one criterion for me.

I only talk to tall, dark, handsomE men. They don't have to be intelligent, in fact it is better if they don't speak at all!!!!
