Hello all,
I was very surprised to see my bank statement today and see the exchange rate for the Turkish lira has dropped even more and is worth less against the english pound so much difference infact that the exchange rate was as much as 25 lira down than the month of July. This is how much I actually lost since only last month on the amount of money I exchanged which is always 200 Lira.

I can remember when I first came to Turkey you could get nearly 2 lira 50 for your 1 English pound, now you are getting just 2 lira 12 nearly 50 kurus lost on every pound.

Does anyone else notice the slide on the Turkish lira

Loveprague, is this not a slide in the pound when it is buying less lira´s?

Actually it´s a steady tendency of pound to lose value. Over the last year it´s value dropped dramatically (about 1/3 of its worth in relation to Polish zloty)

In summer 2006 I got 2 YTL for 1 Euro, in summer 2007 that dropped to 1,7 YTL and now (I just checked) it´s 1,79 YTL. So it´s less than 2 years ago but slightly better than last year.

No it´s not. That´s the problem. We cannot export anything (That means we are producing less and less). We import everything. Companies are closed down. People are laid off. etc. etc.

It´s only because of the massive amount of dollars entered to Turkey because of (one of ) the World´s highest ineterest rates.

If you exchanged pounds and you used to get 200 YTL for it but now you get less, then it means Turkish Lira has risen in value.

Or that pound has lost in value YTL has lost a lot to Polish zloty over the last year just as the pound did.

But that shouldn´t mean that Polish economy is doing extremely good, should it? There should be an explaination for that.
