Total investment for upgrading Turkey´s transport infrastructure will exceed 20 billion euros by 2020, according to
TUTKU AYVAZ-REFERANS
The European Union has identified the necessary projects for Turkey to transform its transport sector and said the total investment required until 2020 exceeded 20 billion euros.
Among a group of 33 priority projects were the construction of new airports in Istanbul and Çukurova, railway logistic centers in Istanbul, Ãzmit, Kayseri, Samsun, Eskiþehir and Balýkesir, ports in Çandarlý and Filyos, as well as a high-speed rail line between Halkalý and Kapýkule.
The EU experts estimated the projects would exceed 20 billion euros, but the priority projects could be eligible for EU funding.
The projects are of great importance for conforming Turkey´s policies and infrastructure to EU standards as well as integrating Turkey´s network into the European transportation network.

Like that then, a big carrot for Turkey to get it´s house in order for accession to the EU and in the meantime, the civil engineers need to be found, educated, trained and experience gained to take on these major projects.

Didn´t Bulgaria get the same grants but forgot to spend them on the roads etc?
