I understand there are 5 states of the Turkish language.

1.  e state

2.  i state

3.  den state

4.  de state

5. neutral state

Can someone please explain the e state and the i state to me please. My teacher is going over and over it but I can´t grasp it. I have tried looking in my books but can´t find a good explaination. Can anyone help me please?

Lilly if your teacher and all the books failed to teach you what these cases are, then I don´t know how to explain you them in a different way than those. {#lang_emotions_unsure}

Have you checked our lessons? : http://www.turkishclass.com/tl_lesson.php?lesson_id=66

here is a generalization:

1.  e state.............´dative´  to where

2.  i state..............usually points out the object definite

3.  den state..........´ablative´  from where

4.  de state............´locative´   in at on where

5. neutral state......the verb or noun will take no suffix as in general statements.

The "e" state is equivalent to the english word "to" that means direction -- like in "I am going to school" = eve gidiyorum.

The "i" state makes the word an object. For example: "I saw the house" = Evi gördüm. This case may be a little bit harder to grasp, so you need to look at many examples.

As you know, Turkish is an agglutinative language that conveys meaning through suffixes as opposed to pronouns. For more information on this topic go to this lesson: Noun states.

Thanks very much for your help everyone {#lang_emotions_wink}. My teacher is very good, but sometimes becasue he is teaching me one-to-one I feel a little pressurised and I feel maybe he expects a little too much from me. Sometimes it is helpful just to hear someone else´s explaination. Thanks again

Yes thank you. Like I say, sometimes it is better to hear someone else´s explaination don´t you think? I am just so determined to do this, but I am worrying I am not doing enough.

Catwoman, do you know when a decision will be made on who is being accepted on the Beginners Course 1? I have registered my interest, but I have not heard anything back yet. Thanks

Yes, it´s definitely always good to hear other people´s explanations.

About the groups -- I will post news in the forum about it as soon as we are ready. At the moment, we are still working on some of the technical aspects. Most probably, the number of students accepted will depend on the number of teachers who join the group, but students will be able to join the group themselves when there are free spots.
