I don´t know if anyone would be interested but I am now in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and thought it might interest people who use the site if I tried to give  occasional thoughts and  descriptions as I travel towards Turkey. I will be mostly in the Turkish world (Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan) before arriving in Turkey from Georgia. Maybe some people could suggest places for me to see or just ask me to go there and write about it!! I´ve only been here for two days so far and although Uzbeki (which I intend to learn some of while I am here in May) is very similar to Turkish, I would have got further in the few conversations I have attempted if I had learned Russian instead!!

Welcome to TLC Samarkand.  There is so much to see in Turkey, where to begin?  I think much depends on your interests.  I would like to visit Göbekli Tepe.   Çatalhüyük is also high on my list of places to visit. If you could go via the Aegean roads you could be able to see some of the Lycian sites also.   Before you get to Lycia, you will pass close to Kapadokya.  Looking at a map, these are all along the way....more or less...Of course when you get to Istanbul...you must visit the Topkapi Palace!

Your trip sounds wonderful.  I´d love to do the same some day.  Have a wonderful trip.

Hi Alameda,

Thanks for the advice. I will look at it again when I get nearer Turkey. I will be entering from the north-east  mid to late June and then spending a lot of time there (Kars/Erzerum/Van) before moving west. I have been to Cappadocia before but will revisit along with Konya. My particular interests are Sufi shrines/places and carpets! I will be ending up in Istanbul visiting my daughter in law´s family.

Regards and thank you for replying,

Samarkand
