Quoting turkaturk

I use this expression all the time when I talk to my Turkish friends or family members because it makes them smile. {#emotions_dlg.lol_fast}

The English translation may be something like come on. Similarly to "ki" / "off" or "eyvah" it basically adds emphasis to your sentence.

As far as I know it is used it to express emotions like

1. impatience: Hadı ya, geç kalıyoruz. (Hurry up, we´re late)

2. unbelief: Olmaz ya, o çok iyi insan. (It´s not possible, he is a good person)

3. nervousness: Off ya! Bu alıştırma çok zor. (Oh, my, this exercise is very difficult)

4. And maybe some more I cannot recall right now.

I am not a native speaker but I hope I could help. I accept thank you flowers without quantity restrictions. {#emotions_dlg.bigsmile}

one popular structure with "ya" is that you can use it for "what if":

ya ... ise = what if ...

ya ... V+ -sa/-se

ya duyarsa? = yes, but what if s/he hears (it)?

ya duysa? = yes, but what if s/he heard (it)?

Some other uses

sen gidiyorsun, ya ben ne yapayım? = You are leaving, well then, what shall I do?

ya, öyle mi? = ah! is that so?

gördün mü ya! = there! you see what happens!

istediğin oldu ya! = after all you got what you wanted!

Niçin söylemedi? söyledi ya! = Why didn´t he say it? He did say!

Öyle ya! = yes, indeed!

ya x ya x (with the same x repeated) it means certainity.

ya gidecek ya gidecek = S/he will either go or go (s/he has to go, there is no other choce)
