Turkish weddings?

Merhaba everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this topic in, but anyway:

I am invited to attend the wedding of one of my Turkish friends tomorrow. Her family came all the way from Turkey here to the USA to celebrate; and she is marrying a Turkish guy.

My questions are: what are Turkish weddings usually like? I know this one will be mixed men and women even though they are both religious people (the bride wears hijab and so on). Is there usually food at the wedding for everyone? Are guests expected to bring presents/gifts to the wedding itself or visit the couple later and bring them the gift then?

I don't want to ask the bride herself these questions because I know she is very busy now with the preparations. Also, I don't know any of the other guests who are going to ask them; I'm one of the few non-Turkish guests who are attending and I would like to be familiar with the customs . Maybe someone can provide some helpful information for me?

Thanks a bunch !

hello,

yes u can bring a gift for the bride and groom as u r the friend of the bride, at the weding there will be both women and men, if it is a relegious one maybe they will sit seperated, i mean women will sit together and men will sit together, yes there will be a meal, but it changes, i mean some prefer meal and some do not, i dont know where it will be in USA so situations may vary...

dont worry turkish are so friendly so u wont feel alone at the wedding,

have fun, take care
