It's not available on DVD yet in Holland (are you in UK now?), but it's in the cinemas now. After that, I think it will be available in dvd-shops as well.

In the cinemas in Holland? Where? :O
I'm not in the UK, but I order my DVDs and CDs in the UK

Hehe ok. Do you know Apeldoorn? It has a cinema called 'De Gigant'. They play it. It's kind of the cultural cinema of the city, so I expect other cities to play it as well in their cult-places.

Hehe ok. If such a small provincial city as Apeldoorn has it, then multi-culti Amsterdam definitely too

I have no idea whatsoever how this movie can give you a negative feeling about Istanbul?? Some of the music you might not like maybe, or Alexander Hacke who takes us through the city and to the different musicians (he irritated me a bit now and then), but the city??

I just finished watching the movie, which is another evidence that Istanbul is a city of cultural richness, contrasts and variety on all kinds of levels, but in this case: music.

I loved the whole movie, but some scenes were really impressive: Baba Zula spending a day making music on a boat on the Bosporus; Ceza, an eMCee who apparently can rap without needing oxigen Very clever guy btw, not falling into the trap of trying to imitate American gangsta-rap. Why should he, he says, he's not American, he's living in Turkey, so in his raps he talks about the things he experiences in his own city.

Aynur Doğan, beautiful Kurdish singer, singing live in an old hamam (the acoustics!!) made my skin crawl and brought tears to my eyes. What a voice..
While Sezen Aksu is singing "Istanbul Hatırası", photo's by famous Turkish photographer Ara Güler are being shown. Oh, melancholy..

A remarkable and intriguing woman is the Canadian Brenna MacCrimmon. She was so fascinated by Turkish music, that she learned the language and now brings back to life ancient, sometimes forgotten Turkish songs. I wonder how long she's been living in Turkey, the way she sings, the way she speaks with the right accent, she really sounds Turkish (to me at least.. )

I will buy this movie, I'll probably buy all Fatih Akin's movies. Up till now, the guy has never disappointed me. I never thought it would be possible, but after seeing Crossing the Bridge, I'm even more in love with Istanbul than I was already!

Off now to stick a poster of Orhan Gencebay on my bedroom wall

This song is from the movie "Crossing the bridge - the sounds of Istanbul" and I really love it, it's so soothing...

Oops, late reply!

I didn't like it basically because it seems to me as if they just got some people off the street and let them play some music. (Apart from Sezen Aksu then..)
Somehow after I had seen it I didn't feel like going to Istanbul anymore (but which I love to do now of course ).

I can't exactly point down why I didn't like it, but it just didn't give me a good feeling about Istanbul :S.
