School Test Question

Reading Turkish middle school tests last thing in the evening gives you a good night´s sleep. Türkçe testi often introduces sentences that look simple from the top but are difficult to understand, at least for me.

1 - Dereden akan bulanık su duruldu.

2 - Yaşanan karışıklık bir süre sonra duruldu.

3 - O yaramaz çocuk bir yıl sonra duruldu.

4 - Fırtına duruldu, ertesi gün yola çıktık.

The original question was how many different meanings of durulmak there are in above sentences. The correct answer is 3, which means that 2 of the sentences represent the same meaning. My bet is these two are 2 and 4. What do the other learners think?

Merhaba, I also agree with you about it. However, I have a little doubt about the third sentence:

1 - Dereden akan bulanık su duruldu.(Durulmak= become limpid/clear)

2 - Yaşanan karışıklık bir süre sonra duruldu.(Durulmak= to calm down/ quiet down/stop)

3 - O yaramaz çocuk bir yıl sonra duruldu. (Durulmak= to grow up or Durulmak= to calm down)... the doubt is here. The naughty child became calm, growing up :/

4 - Fırtına duruldu, ertesi gün yola çıktık. (Durulmak= to calm down/ quiet down/stop)

But, since it seems that there must be three meanings, then, the 3rd sentence must have the meaning of "to grow up" necessarily.

Thanks for giving it a thought, yaseminler. Now that I see your explanations I have doubts about 3 also. But it still has this meaning of ´growing up, maturing´ (I wonder how this meaning has developed). Maybe this separates it from 2 and 4.

I have gone through many school tests. The language test is always the hardest to understand for me, of course. When it comes to maths or science or social studies not so detailed language skills are needed.
