"Sonra ailenin daha iyi gunlerinde alınmış, abartılı bir sifoniyer."

"Sonra, ailenin daha iyi gunlerinde alınmış --> And [plus, and then ,then] that was bought in the better days of the family  [ in other words " when family was in good condition financially]

abartılı --> exaggerated [ could mean also "very luxury" , "fancy " in this case]

sifoniyer --> chiffonier

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plus, there is an exaggerated [fancy] chiffonier that was bought in[from] the better days of the family.

In other words, the sentence states that there is a fancy [expensive] chiffonier which was bought when the family was doing better financially.

"Sonra " in this possible context can mean "plus" , "also" , "and then"  the describer describes things in the house one by one. For example ;

Köşede eski bir masa, pencerelerde sade, gösterişsiz perdeler ve sonra ..................

An old table in the corner, plain,moderate curtains on the windows and plus [then,also].......

"satın almak"  is a proper verb for "to buy"  however ;

"almak " is also used for  "to buy"

al + ın + mak = to be bought [passive voice ]

al + ın + mış [in this case; past perfect tense marking] = had been bought

Actually we can also translate it as; had been bought

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

chiffonier that had been bought .......................

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plus, there is an exaggerated [fancy] chiffonier that had been bought in[from] the better days of the family.

Yes, "Sonra" normally means " later or after " however words can be used differently in different contexts.
