- mAya bak  construction

This construction comes to verb stems and alters the meaning of the verb into ´do your best to do [verb]" ,try to reach the goal.

     Verb stem + mAya bak

      kazan  + maya bak.

Bu yarışı kazanmaya bak ---> Try [your best] to win this competition.

Bu yarışı kazanmaya bak yoksa takımdan atılacaksın. ---> Try [your best] to win this competition or you will get kicked out of team.

In the sentence above, there is also a sense of "warning", "threat", it is as if to say "you´d better win the competition otherwise you will get kicked out of team"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saat sekize kadar gelmeye bak. ---> Try your best to come until 8 o´clock.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sen komşularınla geçinmeye bak. ---> Try to get on with your neighbours.

With this where you have used -kadar, for "until" Do you mean to come or not to come? Its just that in English, this context of "until" would be used to note a moment in the future. ex.

Don´t push the button until I give you the signal.

So by this construction, and of you use -kadar, could it be?

"Try your best not to come until 8´oclock."

Because if you´re saying the positive to come, it´d be

"Try your best to come by/at 8´oclock."

I meant try to come before eight.  it is "before 8 " , "try your best to come before 8 o´clock"

anytime before eight, try not to pass 8 o´clock. thats what I meant.
