Applying for citizenship

hello, my name is ibrahim and im currently a student in istanbul.

my grandfather from my mothers side was a turk but later he migrated to pakistan. currently  my family is trying to apply for the citizenship and i would like to ask what can be the best procedure.

I´m not sure on this, but it may be possible if you can prove Turkish or Ottoman ancestry, you may be able to apply for citizenship. I´m not sure though. I know there are other countries, like Ireland where if you can prove at least one grandparent´s Irish citizenship, you can apply. It was that way a few years ago, perhaps that has now changed.

Well,

 

I don´t know how one acquire Turkish citizenship but got curious and typed

"how to be eligible for turkish citizenship" to google and it returned many good links.

 

For example: this one gives some details about the new acquisition law.

 

Or this one from yahoo answers:

1.You have to be adult
2.You have to stay in Turkey 5 years and must not stay in out of Turkey more that 6 months.
3.You have to be healthy
4.You have to speak Turkish in elemantary level.
5.You have to be professional about a profession and have a good salary.
6.You have to be well-behaved person (Not racist)
7.You have to prove that you really want to live in Turkey.For example you have to buy a flat or have an account in Turkish bank or get married with a Turkish

...or you have to be married to a Turkish woman for I think 2-3 years

You should contact a Turkish embassy to get completely right answers.

 

Just one note: If you havent done your army duty in another country, you will most likely be called to the Turkish army quite soon after becoming a citizen. Thankfully, I did my duty when I was 19
