What does b. stand for in this sentence? I can guess what it means but how does it read?

 

                   Padişahın ismi...lakapsız olarak mesela Ahmed b. Mehmed şeklinde yazılırdı.

 

Can a question be smaller than this?

The complete sentence was Padişahın ismi birinci bölük (orta) yoldaşları arasında lakapsız olarak mesela Ahmed b. Mehmed şeklinde yazılırdı.

Ahmed bin Mehmed    =   Son of Mehmed 

it is read as "bin"  in Turkish. And "bin" means " son " in Arabic.
