Hello everyone.
It has been a while since i have been planning my Summer visit in Istanbul.I have already visited once....many many years ago! Everything would be fantastic as i have managed to find the most economic way to travel and an excellent hotel to stay, at the most convinient and safe territory...everything would have been perfect IF ONLY....
---It s a greek informal and unlisted costume ...when returning from a vacation to bring a gift to each of the most close relitives....(at list in my town and family)Imagine the agony of both keeping them all sutisfied, and also keep my buget balanced enoughf to have some good time there.-i must stress that we are a BIG family!(god bless us!)besides my mother father and sister who will get either something gold or leather for a gift-and the have already given me some hints about them....a good number of another 12 -yeap dozen - relitives standing in line!!!!

i need answers to those basic questions as well as any suggestion you may have or i will go insane and
Skrutz-like during my vacations!(no incognito travel is not an option! boo hoo)

1-when is the summer indirim period(if any)?
2-where would a midle class modern Turk buy his basic quardarobe or gifts from.
3-Would you happen to know any good-outlets or stockhouses or at list their territory?(besides the turistic bazars)?

please if you have any specific suggestions send them over to my personal massages mail...i wouldent be feelling ok if the replies tended to make this forum an advertising oppurtunity for some clever traidors!

thank you all in advance!
save Penelopis vacations!

i really dont understand the purpose of bargaining! why not offer the real honest price and dont waste time on dealing? then both, the seller and the buyer is happy!
my mom used to say that i was useless at bazar shopping, coz i come and pay the first price they offer. but when i start bargaining, the sellers would say: 'r u out of ur mind, girl? do u wanna me and my family become beggers? shame on u!' this made me feel so unhappy and made me sometimes cry, thus i avoided arguing on prices, and actually never returned to the bazaars again

Kaz, I'm sorry you had bad experiences and understand how you feel. Here in the U.S. there is little bargaining, unless your at a Flea Market. I'm still not sure why they call it a Flea Market, since they don't sell Fleas. I discovered bargaining when I was in Mexico and felt a little akward myself. Then I realized, hey I'll never see these people again and found out how much they really paid for the items they were selling. By the end of my trip, I was even negotiating cab fairs. So if you really take a look at it, your not being unreasonable. You just need to have a set price in mind that you think the product is worth and if they are willing to sell it for that price, you both are happy. If they refuse your price, then that's their loss not yours. Unless you really want it bad enough. However, 9 times out of 10 you walk away, they will be running after you.

Teaschip,
This is for you:

The original flea market is likely to be the Marché aux puces of Saint-Ouen, Seine-Saint-Denis, in the northern suburbs of Paris, a large, long-established outdoor bazaar, one of four in Paris, that earned their name from the flea-infested clothing and rags sold there. From the late 17th century, the makeshift open-air market in the town of Saint-Ouen began as temporary stalls and benches among the fields and market gardens where ragpickers exchanged their findings for a small sum. In modern days, the largest "flea market" for antiques is still that at Saint-Ouen.
