My 4 1/2 year old daughter and I are working on Turkish. I have been looking for "graded readers" in Turkish for kindergarten level, but I haven´t found any, although I have found some for what I guess is 3rd grade or so level. I taught all my children to read English, starting when they were babies. I am going to try to teach my youngest one Turkish using the same methods. This might not be the best way, but it´s something to work with.
I bought a ton of baby books and beginning reader books at the thrift store for 25 cents each. Some of them are from phonics programs, but the main thing I was looking for was few words per page and room for me to write in the Turkish translation. It is expensive to buy bilingual books and I need a bunch, expecially since we don´t have a library with Turkish beginning reader books. So, I am trying to make my own.
Need somebody to check this for me, make corrections, and answer my questions. I thought Google Translate was supposed to be pretty good with single words and short sentences....how did they do with this?
Grover´s Opposites Grover Karşıtların
Grover will teach you about opposites. Grover karşıtların hakkında size öğretecektir. (I don´t know why there is not a difference between the karsitlarin that belong to Grover (Grover´s opposites-Grover karsitlarin) and opposites in general....why isn´t it karşıtlar instead of karşıtların in "Grover will teach you about opposites.")???)
Ready or not, here we go! Hazır ya da değil, gidiyoruz! (assuming this is right, would "ready or not, here I come" be "Hazır ya da değil, geliyorum!"?)
Grover is not near. Grover yakın değil.
Grover is far. Grover uzaktır.
Grover is not out. Grover dışında değil.
Grover is in. Grover içinde bulunduğu. (I don´t understand why this translation says "where" Grover is and the other ones don´t)
Grover is not down. Grover aşağı değildir. (I don´t know when to use "degiligir" and when to use "degil"
Grover is up. Grover kalmıştır.
Grover is not dry. Grover kuru değil.
Grover is wet. Very, very wet. Grover ıslak. Çok, çok ıslak.

Grover´s Opposites Grover´ın Karşıtların (Actually, "Grover´ın karşı oldukları" better)
Grover will teach you about opposites. Grover, karşıtlarını (or karşı olduklarını hakkında size öğretecektir.
Hazır ol ya da değil, gidiyoruz! olma, başlıyoruz. (assuming this is right, would "ready or not, here I come" be "Hazır ya da değil, geliyorum!"?)
Grover is not near. Grover yakın değil.
Grover is far. Grover uzaktır.
Grover is not out. Grover dışında (or dışarıda) değil.
Grover is in. Grover içinde bulunduğu.(içeridedir better) (I don´t understand why this translation says "where" Grover is and the other ones don´t)
Grover is not down. Grover aşağıda değildir. (I don´t know when to use "degiligir" and when to use "degil"
Grover is up. Grover kalmıştır. ayaktadır or yukarıdadır.
Grover is not dry. Grover kuru değildir.
Grover is wet. Very, very wet. Grover ıslak. Çok, çok ıslak.
