What do you usually pay for the books you need to use at university? In Holland, depending on the university, you have to pay between €400,- and €500,- each year for the books you buy or use. But I heard that in Türkiye they also use a lot of copies. Is this true? Or does it depend on university? If so, then what do you pay for the books at university?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have to buy them through university or do you have a website similar to our Amazon (in Holland)? If you do you can always sell you books via Amazon too. So like me who spent £100's on books I have been able to sell most of them since.

I don't know the others, but in my university we use photocopy a lot. Our photocopy center earns so much money I think, and he has most of the things we need there. Most of the teachers have their own notes in the photocopy center, or we find the photocopies of books we need as well, but for a few lessons we buy original books, it's better, but they're not still very very expensive. And usually this kind of books go more than one year. So, I'd say I pay for books 100-150 euros maximum per year, some years even much less.

The thing with the photocopy centers is that they are not allowed by law to make full copies of books (against copyright laws ), but they do not follow that rule as we all know
I spent my undergraduate years in Turkey, METU, and again as long as I remember there was a rule that we cannot get a photocopy from the same book more than .. ?? pages I do not remember exactly. What I do remember is nobody was following that rule
And yes, funny and yet sad, they are making lots of money from illegal copies of text books.

Many universities in Turkia have their own publications and they have a bookshop inside the campus.

But new books cost a fortune, especially in special campus bookshops At least, it's like that here!

In my department, a price of an original copy of a book based USA is approx. USD 25-30. I need to have 3 or 4 books like that each semester (half year), but usually I don't buy the original one, even it seems cheaper than in Holland, it is very big amount for every student in Turkey, I think. So we get the photo-copies mostly. Generally, instructors allow that.
I just saw that restriction when I was in English preparatory class. I think, because some investigators from Oxford Pub. used to come and look sometimes.

Ok.. well I'm pretty lucky in this case.. my money will be worth more in Türkiye when I get it changed, and the prices will be lower too. So for Dutch standards, life seems pretty cheap to me.. except that I don't get any scholarship, like everybody else in Holland gets. So that means my parents have to pay everything. So information like these is really important for me, so that i can learn how much money i need to ask from them.
The trouble will start when I get a Turkish salary because then i don'thave the advantage of the money rates anymore But that day is far from here.

If a book has been published by a State University's publisher then normally it is much cheaper than what a smillar book would cost in a normal bookshop.
For instance Ege University has their own publications. It is called "Ege Ãœniversitesi Yayınları".
Here you see a list of publication by the "Faculty of Letters" or Ege University:
http://edebiyat.ege.edu.tr/yayin.htm
I don't mean that most course books are going to be published by the university. This entirely depends on the departent and it depends to the university and lecturers. But I would expect more course books among university publications for the "Faculty of Letters" comparing to "faculty of science" for instance.
I think you will find the books very cheap comparing to the prices you pay now in your country. Only some imported books are going to be expensive but there aren't going to be any imported books related to Turkish Language and Literature.
