This may be a stupid question but could anyone explain the difference between ´kabir´ and ´mezar´ to me?

They both mean the same ---> A place where the dead body is buried/graved. In other words = grave

Mezar = Kabir  [grave]

Mezarlık = Kabristan [graveyard]

The difference is their origin ,

* "Kabir"  originates from an Arabic verb "Kabara" --> the act of burrying / the hole.

* "Mezar " also originates from Arabic which means " the place that is visited ". Since , people visit their loved ones who are dead, it does make sense to call the grave as mezar.

okay thank you so much! I wanted to ask it to be sure. Because Turkish is more rich in words than Dutch. Sometimes we have 1 Dutch word for different Turkish words with different meanings. My book gave me ´graf´ for both kabir and mezar, so I wanted to be sure if their was any difference.

It was actually really interesting to find out the originn of both these words
