Why do we need to put the genitive suffixe "in" to Zeynep in this sentence ?

To show that the kids are hers. 

Zeynep´s children.

We need genetive suffix there as Gulbahar said,  it is the  indicator which is telling us "the two kids are possessed by Zeynep".

Zeynep who is a teacher has 2 kids.
