Here´s my translation:

"Turns out it hurts a lot not to be able to see what you wanna see where you look."

This sentence is inverted to add poetic effect. Oddly, you can make any sentence "poetic" in Turkish when you invert it.{#emotions_dlg.bigsmile} The most correct syntax is as the following:

"Meğer baktığı yerde görmek istediğini göremeyince insanın canı ne çok yanarmış."

"İnsan" here has a general meaning and it translates to "you" or "we". We use "meğer" when we feel like the outcome of something is unexpected or something we did not know beforehand, that´s why it´s used with "-mış past tense". If you come across more examples you´ll get the hang of it better. Here´s another:

"Ben onu yaşıyor sanıyordum, meğer(sem) ölmüş!" (I thought he/she was alive; apparently/turns out he/she died!"

Meğersem is just another version of meğer with no difference.

Hope it was helpful,

-Jansay

Where did you see this?

It was apparently written by a Turkish poet/writer Cemal Süreya [1931-1990]

You are missing punctuation and have a small error in copying this.

meğer ne çok yanarmış canı ınsanın; baktığı yerde görmeyince görmek istediğini

I´m not a native Turkish speaker, so I can only give my basic interpretation, and poetry often inverts sentences and has other quirks. Unfortunately as I don´t have access to the whole piece, the context is also needed for the most accurate translation.
Here is a breakdown of the first part.
Meğer (it seems) normally used to express surprise at something
ne çok (how much)
yanar (inflammable/flammable)
yanarmış (apparently inflammable)
insan (a person)
insanın (a person´s ....)
can (life, soul)
insanın canı (a person´s life)
So the first part could be loosely translated as
It surprised me how very volatile a person´s life can be.
The next bit is harder for me to translate because of the complexity, but I´ll start at the end and work backwards
istemek (to want)
istediğini (that you/he/she wanted)
görmek (to see)
görmek istediğini (that you/he/she wanted to see)
gör + me + y + ince = görmeyince (when not seeing)
yer (place)
yerde (in the place)
bakmak (to look)
baktığı (where he/she looked)
baktığı yerde (in the place he/she looked)
and the second part means something like
Which he/she wanted to see, when not seeing (it) in the places he/she had looked
I´ve just read Jansay´s excellent answer, who posted while I struggled through my attempt.

Here´s my translation:

"Turns out it hurts a lot not to be able to see what you wanna see where you look."

This translation makes more sense to me, but you now have my literal translation as well Smile
