Merhaba {#emotions_dlg.bigsmile},

Şu cümleri nasıl çevirirdiniz ?

Orada yemeklerini yerken, “Keşke Veysel de burada olsaydı.” demeden edemediler.

My try : When they were eating there, they could not help themselves to say "If only Veysel was here too".

I don´t know how to translate "demeden edemediler" what does -den etmek mean ?

İçinden, “İzimi sürmüş olmalı!” diye geçirdi.

He thought : "He must be chasing me".

What does "-miş olmak" mean ?

Teşekkür ederim,

My thoughts while you wait for a native speaker to answer

the ´meden/madan´ suffix after a verb stem gives the meaning of

´without ....ing´

de + meden = demeden = without saying

etmek = to do (something)

edemediler = they couldn´t do

So my attempt at the literal translation

Whilst they were eating there, they couldn´t do without saying "if only Veysel was here too!"

It is usually used in the negative form.

-den edememek/duramamak=can´t help doing, can´t do without doing sth.

Düşünmeden edemiyorum.

Seni görmeden duramıyorum.

Gezmeden edemiyorum.

Durmak can be used in the positive form sometimes, in a sentence like:

İnsanlar yemek yemeden 3 gün durabilir. (or yaşayabilir, yapabilir, in the sense of enduring sth)

etc.

These two structures are pretty much interchangeable.

İzimi sürmüş olmalı= S/he must have chased me.
