she is  new popped up about 2 years ago.

After receiving musical training from the age of 5, Asena Akan graduated from the Istanbul State Conservatory´s Opera Department and has since then been giving passionate performances in the styles of rock, soul, flamenco, bossanova, and jazz since 2000. This year, Akan combined her diverse musical background with personal lyrics to record the debut album Istanbul´un İzleri/Traces of Istanbul. She will be performing with her band at Nardis Jazz Club on June 18.

Asena Akan was born in Istanbul in 1975. Her musical career started as a child imitating all sounds she heard. However, her “official” career started when her parents encouraged her to go to a music school and she made it to the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory Department of Violin at the age of 5. She studied at the Istanbul University Department of Psychological Counseling and Istanbul State Conservatory Department of Opera simultaneously. She practiced jazz with Randy Esen and Donovan Mixon. She has been performing in various gigs from flamenco to jazz, bossanova to samba since 2000. She is currently working on her own project named ´Another Jazz Band´ in which she blends latin and jazz standards with acid jazz and bossanova styles. As her love for self-development and urge to become a better instrument have never ended and never will, she is still researching on new vocal styles and working on her own compositions.
