YES! The debit card I used had only the "mastercard logo", and worked for me everywhere in Turkey, Africa, and India...

As long as the cash is in the account, I have experienced that it is accepted.

Caution: write down every transaction, as on rare occasions (none in my personal experience) there is credit card theft- merchants write down and reuse numbers for purchases.

This is not a problem with a credit card as unauthorized purchases are voided, but with a debit card it is more difficult to reclaim your money.

I always withdraw cash from an ATM , and pay in cash to avoid the circulation of my bank card number.

Good luck, and have a great trip!

Debit cards have less insurance agains fraud than credit cards. Ask your bank about this. Your card information might be stolen or your card might be cloned if you use it in a dodgy local shop and the bank might not cover your lost. If it had been a CC than you would have more protection.

i would take a switch or maestro but not a visa electron. they are not always accepted here in england even because they are not a standard debit card...unless the card says maestro on it i would not rely on being able to draw money out using it...
also banks charge u for converting the currency plus a 1.5-2.75% charge for using ur card abroad..not sure if it is worth it myself....
