We are going to İstanbul in February
I'm soooooo excited - *BouNCe*

We have looked at quite a few hotels but are still looking - can anyone recommend anywhere that is not too expensive but has good hospitality, nice rooms and plentiful facilities?

The ones so far that have made it onto our shortlist are:
Barın
Sarı Konak
Yaşmak Sultan

Any others we should look at???

I stayed, (after much research), at the Hotel Nena in Sultanhamet. I was sold on this hotel due to two things:

1. the tripadvisor.com reviews- extraordinary hospitality! and amazing view room 403 - 15 ft x 6 ft balcony deluxe suite on the 4th floor- with full view of Blue Mosque

2. Free airport transfers.

I must say, in terms of helpfulness- these folks are fantastic- free Internet and breakfast too. My room was large, immaculate, and with a full bathtub. They held my luggage safely as I traveled about for two weeks. And, it's pretty quiet too. I think the total was 89USD for the suite per night.

The balcony (the size of a small bedroom) made the stay. If you can get this room on the fourth floor across from the mosque, it's well worth it. Please check out the reviews at tripadvisor.com

Good luck!

Christine

I should add, that the rates seem quite high on the posted website. There is a huge discount for booking in advance ( I think 20-30%)

That might help

This is just me personally but I'd much rather stay in hotels in Taksim than in Sultan Ahmet. Especially with the new metro line thats takes you down to Kabataş from Taksim, so it is maybe a 15 minute transit ride to Sultan Ahmet from Taksim. Your still close enough to Sultan Ahmet to do that during the day and then you have Taksim at night. Sultan Ahmet is a little slow at night no matter what you are looking for. My very good friend Bahattin manages the Savoy in Taksim right across from all the döner places at the top of Istiklal. Tell him that "Keith" sent you and he will give you a very good deal.

Thanks for the link - after looking at lots of hotels we have just booked Hotel Nena.....not the same room though - we have booked a cheap double as we don't expect to spend lots of time awake in the room!

I'll let you know how we get on

I'm delighted the link helped. It really is a great place to stay- just watch out for the kilim sharks across the street.

This is soooo very true!
Staying in Taksim/Beyoğlu gives you the best of both worlds: it is really easy to go to Sultanahmet from there, and at night it's a much livelier and "real" place to stay than Sultanahmet is.
