Hi all,
Having previously asked for help about working in Turkey I have looked into the TEFL courses I think this is my best route to actually gaining enough to do some sort of English teaching in Turkey. I am really writing to people who have took the course their views and reasons why they went for the course and how they got on. The idea of teaching a class English is a bit daunting for me but on a one to one basis would be better. Please write back your views thankyou

I did a TEFL course although I already had a university degree in another foreign language. TEFL certificate has opened more doors for me than my UNI degree. I taught in University's, High School's, Private Colleges, and business with this little piece of paper. Also they teach you valuable skills on how to teach English without knowing the language of your host country, also valuable teaching skills if you've never taught before. I highly recommend a TEFL course. I use what I learned in that course on a daily basis.

Well from doing research i think it would depend on whereabouts u want to reside in turkey, as to whether there will be a demand. In cities and tourist resorts sure, but if u want to live in real turkey then i'm not too sure as I couldn't find many posts/positions.It is a great thing to have though as it is useful worldwide

Capoeira,

Did you take the TEFL course on-line? If so, how long did it take you?

Thanks

No, I took it at a TEFL school in San Francisco. But, I am sure there must be some good TEFL courses on-line as well as some schools in your area takes some checking around.

It was 1000hrs. We took classes 2 evenings a week and ALL day Saturday which would include us teaching a course to foreign students. The class was tons of fun, but also challenging and very helpful. It teaches you everything that you need to know about teaching, classroom control, lesson plans, grading, how to stay on task, error correction, grammar, how to teach grammar, reading & listening comprehension skills, class structures for different levels etc. Also, it shows how to make class fun and enjoyable for students and still reach important language targets. I had a really good experience.
