Sultan Ahmed Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque, the most important mosque of Istanbul, was built by the Ottoman sultan Ahmed I between 1609 - 1616 facing Hagia Sophia, in order to compete with it. Today, those great buildings stand each by another, making with the park between them one of the most attractive places on the world. (Location: Istanbul)
