Topkapi Palace – The Second Court
Description: The beautiful park of the Second Court of Topkapi Palace, with entrance to the Third Court, called Bab-ı Saadet (the Gate of Felicity) at the far end. The gate was originally built by the order of Sultan Mehmet II. It was reconstructed in 16th century and redecorated in the rococo style in the 18th century. At the time of his accession and on holidays, the Sultan sat before the gate on his golden throne ornamented with emerald stones to receive the homage of his subjects and officials.

On the left of the Second Court stands the splendid building of Divan (The Imperial Council) and next to it is the entrance of Harem, the private residence of Sultans. On the right lies the complex buildings of the Palace Kitchens where all the meals for the members of Palace and Harem was prepared here. Today only two chambers are open to visitors. One is for the exhibition of Chinese and Japanese Porcelains and the other chamber houses elegant collection of Silver objects and personal belongings of Sultans.
