Till 1948, there existed an ancient Seljuk kingdom in India, Devlet-e-Usmani [also known as Dominion of Hyderabad]. It was ruled over by the ´Nizam´. My grandfather was an ambassador of the Nizam to the Sublime Porte [1908-1910]. In November 1931, while sultan Abdul Mejid lived in exile in France, my grandmother acted as an intermediary in arranging the marriage of the Osmanli pricess to the heiraparent of Devlet-e-Usmani, Prince Azam Jah. The Nizam Mir Osmanali [father-in-law], Princess Durre Shahvaar and my grandmother [in between] appear in the picture taken just after the marriage ceremony. Prince Mukarram Jah, born from the union, is the grandson of the Osmanli Sultan, Abdul Majid II. Princess Durre Shahvaar died, December 2006 in London, and I attended her funeral service. It is truly said, "Sic transit gloria mundi". (Location: Nice, Southern France)
