Road from Konya to Beyşehir
Road from Konya to Beyşehir
Turkey´s Lakeland, the region south of Afyon and west of Konya, has been largely ignored by the Turkish tourist industry. Stretches of azure and silver waters stand out against the grey plateau, or appear suddenly between mountains to startling effect. Many of them, have a high salt content, which discourages aquatic life and human settlement alike; others are avoided by would-be settlers as their flat shores are liable to flood. But around the main plateau, forest cloaks the slopes of the mountains around the western lakes and the residents of their banks manage to make a tenuous living out of fishing or reed cutting, or even running simple pansiyons for an ever increasing number of visitors. (Location: between Konya and Beyşehir)
