Suffixes for making new words

This suffix produces nouns and derivations from other nouns and adjectives. It stands for "-ness" as in "goodness". It also forms nouns of place - çimen (grass) produces çimenlik (meadow, grassy placce)

lık,lik,luk,lük
if the last vowel letter in the word
a,ı=ı
e,i=i
o,u=u
ö,ü=ü

şeker=sugar
şekerlik = sugar-shaker, sugar producing place

tuz=salt
tuzluk = salt-cellar, salt bed, salt producing place

göz=eye
gözlük = spectacles

söz=word
sözlük = dictionary

güzel=beautiful
güzellik=beauty

dost=friend
dostluk=friendship

-gi -ki, -gı -kı, -gu -ku, -gü -kü
This suffix forms nouns of action or result of action

if it finished with consonant one of ç,f,t,h,s,k,p,ş then it must be ki,kı,ku,kü
for other consonant letters it must be gi,gı,gu,gü

if the last vowel is
a,ı=ı
e,i=i
o,u=u
ö,ü=ü

sevgi (sevmek) = affection,love
saygı (saymak) = esteem
içki (içmek)= (a) drink
bilgi (bilmek) = knowledge, data
sergi (sermek)= exhibition, show
sorgu (sormak) = interrogation
etki (etmek) = effect, influence

-sal = kumsal, kırsal, belgesel, bilimsel, sanatsal...
-sal, -sel
This suffix makes adjectives of association often end on -ic in English (history - historic, historical).

kumsal = strand (of sand)
kırsal = rural - (kır = countryside)
belgesel = documentary
bilimsel = scientific
sanatsal = artistic
kimyasal = chemical

if the salt vowel is back vowel (a,ı,o,u) it must be sal
if the salt vowel is front vowel (e,i,ö,ü) it must be sel

-ci -çi, -cı -çı, -cu -çu , -cü -çü
This suffix signifies Profession, Occupation, like "-er" in English - "worker.."

çilekçi = strawberry grower/seller
madenci = miner/mineral worker
halıcı = carpet maker/seller
işÃ§i = worker
bulaşıkçı = dish-washer
yolcu = traveller
gözcü = watchman

if the last vowel is
a,ı=ı
e,i=,
o,u=u
ö,ü=ü

if finished with one of these sonsonants ç,f,t,h,s,k,p,ş
it must be ç
for others c, if finishes with vowel it must be c too
