Simple Past Tense III - Negative Form of -idi

Hello friends; this time we are going to talk about the negative form of Story Mood of Past Tense, -idi. Likewise in previous tenses, we are going to put negativeness suffixes -me/-ma between stem and tense suffix. Let´s see this with a simple formula:

If last vowel of verb stem is one of "a,ı,o,u", formula is:

Verb stem + -ma + dı

If last vowel of verb stem is one of "e,i,ö,ü", formula is:

Verb stem + -me + di

Let´s make examples:

"Yaptı" means he/she/it did. So, how can we say he/she/it DIDN´T do? Very easy; let´s use the formula. Last and only vowel of "yap" stem is "a". Let´s put the keys into formula:

Yap + ma + : He/she/it didn´t do!

It is too easy, isn´t it?

Do the same with "gör" stem, which means "see".

Gör + me + di : He/she/it didn´t see!

Let´s conjugate "açmak, kapatmak, okumak and gitmek" verbs:

madım : I didn´t open

madın: You didn´t open

madı : He/she/it didn´t open

madık: We didn´t open

madınız : You didn´t open

madılar : They didn´t open.

Kapatmadım: I didn´t close

Kapatmadın : You didn´t close

Kapatmadı : He/she/didn´t close

Kapatmadık : We didn´t close

Kapatmadınız : You didn´t close

Kapatmadılar : They didn´t close

Okumadım : I didn´t read

Okumadın : You didn´t read

Okumadı : He/she/it didn´t read

Okumadık : We didn´t read

Okumadınız : You didn´t read

Okumadılar : They didn´t read

Gitmedim : I didn´t go

Gitmedin : You didn´t go

Gitmedi : He/she/it didn´t go

Gitmedik : We didn´t go

Gitmediniz : You didn´t go

Gitmediler : They didn´t go

thx
