the patterns of -dik -1

VERB dik POSESSIVE SUFFIX THE RESULT
  dik m -diim
  dik n -diin
  dik i -dii
  dik miz -diimiz
  dik niz -diiniz
  dik leri -dikleri

 

 

Don´t think it is simple past of first plural. It was "di" and "k". But this is completely different. It may usually be correct to think this "-dik" as "the fact that".

 

Time, tense isn´t important. The event is important.

 

Let´s start showing this pattern as adjective.

 

anlatmak (to tell)

hikâye, öykü (the story)

güzel (nice, beautiful)

de/da (also, too)

düündürücü (engrossing)

 

anlat+d覺k+覺 hikâye--------->anlatt覺覺 hikâye (the story he tells/told)

 

Anlatt覺覺 hikâyeler çok güzel ve çok da düündürücü. (The stories he tells are so nice and also very engrossing.)

 

oturmak (1to sit, 2to sit down, 3to dwell, to live, 4...5...6....)

yer (1the place, 2the floor, the ground, 3the earth, 4...5...6)

temiz (clean)

 

otur+d覺k+m覺z yer------------>oturduumuz yer (the place where we sit/are sitting/sat/)

temiz deil (not clean)

 

Oturduumuz yer temiz deil. (The place where we are sitting isn´t clean.)

 

giymek (to wear)

elbise (the cloth)

nere (where, which place)

almak (1to take, 2to buy, 3...4..)

 

giy+dik+n elbise--------------->giydiin elbise (the cloth you wear/are wearing/wore)

elbise+i(accusative)----------->elbiseyi

nere+den(ablative)------------>nereden (from where?)

al+d覺+n----------------------->ald覺n (you took)

 

Giydiin elbiseyi nereden ald覺n? (Where did you cloth you are wearing buy from?)

 

yaamak (1to live, 2to dwell, 3to experience, 4...5..)

kasaba (the town)

küçük (small)

 

yaa+d覺k+lar覺 kasaba--------->yaad覺klar覺 kasaba (the town they live/are living/lived)

küçük+di-------------------->küçüktü (it was small)

 

Yaad覺klar覺 kasaba çok küçüktü. (The town they lived was so small.)

 

söylemek (to tell, to say)

hiçbir ey (nothing)

inanmak (to believe)

 

söyle+dik+m hiçbir ey ----> söylediim hiçbir ey (nothing I said)

ey+e(dative)------------->eye (to thing)

inan+ma+d覺+lar------------>inanmad覺lar (they didn´t believe)

 

Söylediim hiçbir eye inanmad覺lar. (They believed in nothing I said.)

 

almak (1to take, 2to buy, 3....)

motor (1the engine, 2the motorbike)

Yamaha

 

al+d覺k+覺 motor-------------->ald覺覺 motor (the motorbike he bought)

 

Ald覺覺 motor bir Yamaha. (The motorbike he bought is a Yamaha)

 

ta覺nmak (to move (reflexive))

ev (the house, the home)

görmek (to see)

otobüs (the bus)

durak (the stop place)

yak覺n (near, close)

 

ta覺n+d覺k+lar覺 ev----------->ta覺nd覺klar覺 ev (the house they moved into)

ev+i(accusative)---------->evi

gör+di+n mi--------------->gördün mü? (did you see?)

otobüs durak+覺(poss.)----->otobüs dura覺 (the bus stop)

otobüs durak+覺+a--------->otobüs dura覺na (to the bus stop)

 

A: Ta覺nd覺klar覺 evi gördün mü? (Have you seen the house they had moved into?)

B: Evet. Otobüs dura覺na yak覺n. (Yes. It´s near to the bus stop)

 

hangi (which)

üniversite (the university)

okumak (1to read, 2to study (at a school))

bölüm (1the part, 2the episode, 3the level, 4the branch, 5...)

ne (what)

 

hangi üniversite+de--------------->hangi üniversitede (at which university)

Ankara üniversite+i(pos.)+de---------->Ankara Üniversitesi´nde (at Ankara University)

oku+yor+sin---------------------->okuyorsun (you are studying)

oku+d覺k+n bölüm------------------>okuduun bölüm (the branch you are studying)

 

A: Hangi üniversitede okuyorsun? (Which university are you studying?)

B: Ankara Üniversitesi´nde. (In Ankara University)

A: Okuduun bölüm ne? (What is the department you are studying?)

B: Rus Dili ve Edebiyat覺. (Russian Language and Literature)

 

The pattern of "-dik" can also used as only noun.

 

demek (to say)

doru (true, correct)

 

de+dik+n---------------------->dediin

 

Dediin doru. (What you say/said is true.)

 

yalan (the lie)

yalan söylemek (to tell a lie)

belli (clear, absolute)

 

söyle+dik+leri----------------->söyledikleri

 

Yalan söyledikleri çok belli. (It´s very clear that they are telling a lie.)

 

duymak (to hear)

doru (true, correct)

maalesef, ne yaz覺k ki (unfortunately)

 

duy+duk+m------------------>duyduum

 

A: Duyduum doru mu? (Is it true what I heard?)

B: Evet, ne yaz覺k ki. (Yes, unfortunately)

 

önce (1before, 2ago)

söylemek (to say)

doru (true, correct)

 

önce+ki------------------->önceki (the previous one)

söyle+dik+n--------------->söylediin

doru+idi------------------>doruydu (it was correct)

 

Önceki söylediin doruydu ama bu deil. (The previous one that you said was correct but this isn´t.)

 

arat覺rmak (to research, to search)

gereksiz (unnecessary)

 

arat覺r+d覺k+lar+n--------->arat覺rd覺klar覺n (what(plural) you research/researched)

 

Arat覺rd覺klar覺n çok gereksiz. (What(plural) you research are too unnecessary)

 

içmek (to drink)

zararl覺 (harmful)

 

iç+dik+ler+niz------------->içtikleriniz

 

襤çtikleriniz zararl覺 deil. (What(plural) you drink isn´t harmful.)
