forgot to mention that where we had the bird flu in turkiye and it was all over the news.there was a time where the internet was full of people making fun of it (ohh turkey the bird has the bird flu hohoho,if you are called turkey no wonder you get the bird flu hoho, dont get me wrong i love turkey, indeed i will go to my favorit sandwich diner and get me my favorite turkey sandwich hoho, what kind of country in his right mind would call itself turkey hohoho, turkey is your neighbor chicken hoho etc) instead of discussing it nicely.i know they are ignorant people but it can get very annoying and insulting sometimes.

Quoting Roxy:

I am really sorry but, friends... why is the so much trouble about Turkey/Türkiye business???
I just asked an English friend here, what does she think when someone says " I am going to Turkey next week" , and she said, "beleive me I always think country Turkey first and never comes to my mind as a bird".. and I never ever come to misunderstanding the issue or people making fun about it etc..so why all the worry???

well i can tell you my story about this one, of course not all of them think of turkiye as a bird when they hear turkey but many do.for example i was visiting my friends house and his son asked me where i was from, when i answered i am from turkey he was like, can you speak chicken?? well yeah to you guys it may seem funny but it was insulting to me, so i couldnt laugh about it very much as my friend did at that point!! well just forget about it, there is no point discussing it now many people just dont get it!!as long as the government is fine with getting called chicken or bird i guess i should be fine with it too.

turkish families themselfes.last time i was on i have noticed people discussing topics about turkish traditions and customs.i couldnt find that forum topic so i am posting here.i just wanted to say that it does not apply to all families who live in turkiye or elsewhere.so to speak they all have the same customs and traditions, that you guys pointed out.no they dont.like in my family we are not traditional whatsoever,we do not serve elderly first we do serve kids first, eventough we have lots of respect for the elderly people i do believe you can show your respect in other ways and not by serving them first, they can wait but kids wont!!another one like we do not kiss elderly people's hands or anyones hands as matter of fact why should i kiss someonelses hand i dont even know,i have just met but because they expect me to do so?? i think thats wrong.as i said you can show your respect to others or to elderly by so many other ways.
speaking of taking your shoes of before you enter a home, thats not unusual and its just common sense you dont take the dirt from outside into your house.i have seen many other nations doing the same,in their countries.some of the costoms yes but the traditions, no they do not apply for me since i do consider my self more liberal than traditional.yes you will find lots of traditional families still all over but you will also find many liberal families there as well.i do believe in this nice turkish atasöz'ü we have "zaman sana uymasa sen zamana uy" i completly agree with that.i think in my eyes many traditional families want you to accept and respect their beliefs and their ways which is nice and dandy but they refuse to accept yours.respect me i will respect you as i would say more tolerance and less violence!!peace out!

ardarkadaşim bunun aşağilik komplexiyle hic bir ilgisi yok sen sadece anlamiyor veya anlamak istemiyorsun.biz onlara misir diyorsak tabiiki onlar misir olmadiği gibi bizlerde hindi değiliz ama sadece anlamadigin seyde burada zaten.başka her ülke bir başka ülkenin ismini uluslararasi kullandiginda o ülkenin ismiyle hitap ediyor, mesela, italia, espania, vs gibi neden turkiye'ye turkiye degilde turkey deniliyor o zaman hala?? bu bence sadece alay ve küçük gördükleri icin.tabiiki ben burada hickimsenin turkiyeyi hindi anlaminda söylediğini demek istemiyorum.biliyorum buradaki insanlarin hepsi türkiyeyi çok seviyor ve kesinlikle alay etmiyordurlar.sende türkiye hakkinda ingilizce yazilan forumlara katilip ne kadar aşağilayici ve nekadar çirkin ve alayci şeyler yazildiğini görseydin sende aynen benim gibi düşÃ¼nürdün.mesela gecenlerde turkiye hakkinda sohbet edilen bir foruma katildim tesadufen, orada konusulanlar o kadar zoruma gittiki yazilan şeyler cok asagilayici ve resmen cok saygisizlikti.şikayet edip forumu kapattirmak zorunda kaldim.yani şunu unutmaki herkez senin benim gibi türkiyeyi ve türkleri sevmiyor kardeşim.

Atatürk gibi büyük bir insan onun gibi bir dahii varmidir acaba bu yerzüzünde??Eğer Atatürk olmasaydi şimdi bizler kimbilir kimlerin kölesi olacaktik.gerçi şÃ¶yle bir bakarsan zaten Türkiye su anda herkezin kölesi haline gelmiş durumda.bir Ataturk'un yasadigi donemlerimize bak birde bugunumuze??ne komik hale gelmisizde haberimiz yok.annemin bir sözü var eğer Atatürk biraz daha yaşasaydi biz almanlara işci olarak değil almanlar bize işci olarak gelirdi der hala! düşÃ¼ndükce çok doğru maalesef.biz yeni nesil annemin babamin neslinin neler çektigini gurbet ellerde bilemeyiz çünki biz yaşamadik,yaşasakta onlarin çektiği zorluklarla karşilaşmadik.belki sadece yabanci düşmanliğini çekiyoruz hala yurtdişinda nerede olursak olalim.ve yurtdisinda yasayipta hic yabanci dusmanligiyla karsilasmadigini soyleyenler yalan soyluyor.bizim yabancilara kucak actigimiz gibi biz heryerde oyle sicak karsilanmiyoruz maalesef!! sadece fikrimi soyleyeyim dedim bu konuda nerden basladim nerde bittim goruyormusunuz icim dolmus yani!!!
