I want to translate this as:

By going to the doctors concerned with this form he had an exam.

But it just doesn´t sound right. What would be the correct translation?

I came across those 2 sentences with söyledi.

Doktor kandaki þeker oranýnýn yüksek olduðunu söyledi. Murat Bey´in dikkat etmesini söyledi.

I want to translate this as:

The doctor told him that he had a high proportion of sugar in his blood.

He told Mr. Murat to be careful (pay attention).

So, I´m thinking söyledi with -diðini means "he said that he ...." and söyledi with -mesini means "he told him to..."

If correct, is that a good rule of thumb to use?

Ancak doktorlar yine de beslenmesine ve spor yapmasýna dikkat etmesi gerektiðini söylediler.

Could it be changed to a more direct order by getting rid of gerek?

I would have let it stay there, as it tries to say, he needs to take care ...

And in this sentence it looks like the tavsiye etmek behaves like söylemek:

Doktorlar, Murat Bey´in altý ayda bir genel saðlýk kontrolünden geçmesini tavsiye ettiler.

 I think a bit stronger than söylemek, as they advise him.

So would the "rule of thumb" (if correct) apply to other words as well?

I think that´s the last sentence in the exercise I have questions about.

So, based on that correction of yours I used -mek için in the current post and it was corrected back to -mem için!!!

So no matter what I do, I can´t win.

Question is, if you try to say "so, that ...." and use "için" do you use the verb preceeding it in the -mek or me+possessive ending form? It´s seems no matter what form I use it´s wrong, so I would really appreciate some clarification on that.

I don´t want to complicate the issue but let me add this crucial detail about -miþtir.

"-miþtir" definetly corresponds to "must+have+ verb 3" which implies a probability or a guess. It means exactly the same with "-miþ olmalý".  

but -miþtir might also imply "certainty" in some contexts, especially in formal or official circumstances.

For example,

Þirketimiz fiyatý düþürmek için müzakerelere baþla-mýþtýr. (A memo or a public declaration which means "Our company has started negotiations in order to reduce the prices."

There is no sense of probability or estimation here. It means exactly the same with past tense with -di, but the sentence is meant to be a formal declaration hence uses -miþtir instead.

I think this is not even an exception and you will come across with this usage almost everyday in newspapers and in news broadcasts.
