I live about 10 miles away from where the epicentre of the earthquake was (market rasen) and it scared the hell out of me! I had to run to my mums room hehe. At least no one was seriously injured.

Thanks so much to everyone for your advice. So I should either buy a phone here in England and register it at the airport (does this cost money?), or buy a phone and register it there. I'm going to Altinkum and i can't remember seeing any phone shops there, does anyone know if there are some? Thanks again for all your help!

I haven't actually got a credit card, my mum suggested taking travellers checks and just changing them when i need them, but i don't know if this will be a hassle or not!
I thought about just putting an ordinary simcard in but was worried it might be a bit expensive to use over there, do you know how much texts etc are?

I am going to Turkey for 9 weeks next summer and was wonering if anyone could help me with some questions i have.

1) What would be the best thing to do about money? Do you think I should take quite a bit and then hide it in my apartment (and also get my family to bring some when they come and visit) or are there hsbc cash points over there that i can use?

2) I will need a mobile phone while i'm over there, my contract is running out on my current one anyway so i will buy a new phone just before i go, is it possible to stick a Turkish sim card in it and top it up with Turkish credit?
