well,as i understood u are quarreling over religio ,its rules,etc....i hate taking part in religious discussions...religion as i said in my former Tc incarnation is a blinder,brainwasher..etc...but i respect all religions..and damn,I believe that God whatever its name is ....is happy when peope pray....no matter how,where,when...

No Avalon, the quarrel is not about religion rules now
Actually its about how can we 'Muslims women' feel not comfortbale having physical contact with strange men ?!
That means men's are superior, and women are .....ect
And that is just because we have that kind of culture which is......
You can fill in the spaces as you like !

But at same time,it was nothing wrong when a man said that Muslim's women pray in CAGES,that doesnt mean that he meant they are like animals even the only thing can be in cages are animals, because SURE he didnt meant it that way !
You know why ?!
........
You also can fill in the spaces,or i can do it for you if you want !
Because they ARE MUSLİMS WOMEN!

If you are praying, it is about your relationship with the One Unique Deity, you are trying to connect to him and pay him your tribute. You shouldn't even feel that someone, whether male or female, is touching you.

Actually D_K,i dont think that when im entering the Mosques that im entering Heaven and everyone there is an angel
Men or women
And they are not
So actually i would feel if anyone is touching me whether male or female !

Quoting Deli_kizin:

And the fact that you don't feel comfortable touching a male person during something pure like prayer, is a rather sexistic and unegalitarian sentiment: it either means you think of every contact between male and female as a possible sexual contact,

As i said at my post to tea...it would be hard to explain
But i do not,and i believe im right to say most Muslims,do NOT feel comfortable being touched by strangers, and i dont allow it far to think about it as possible sexual contact
İt doesnt last that much

Quoting Deli_kizin:

or you think male and female are not equal thus physical contact is disturbing and should be avoided at any cost.

What this has to do with equality ?!!!
İt has to do with difference in genders

Like it or not,men are men and women are women
We are equal at rights and duties
STİLL we are different...we are women and they are men
You cant change that
And yes physical contact by strangers is disturbing to me,if its not to you,its your business.

Canli,I understand our prayers our different, but it doesn't change the fact we are ALL humans. Men are NOT superior than women and in my religion we were ALL created equal.

Who said men are superior than women ?
Because they stand in the front lines ?!
You remind me of my Mom,back at school days, she always wanted me to sit at the front desks too
Maybe because teacher was at the front ?!
But i always hated it
You know what ? God is every where,at the front and at the back too

We were, and are studying at same places with men,sit at same benches, work at same places
İ dont have a problem with that
İ dont have problem to rub elbows sometimes with who ever sitting beside me too

But i do mind Praying side by side with them,or infront of them

Quoting teaschip:

I understand were from different cultures and religions, I just feel it's degrading to women that even if it's crowded in a mosque you have to stand behind the men in line. What makes them more important?

DD was right i think...
Sure we are from diffrent cultures and different religions
İn my culture, its not even ACCEPTABLE to be in same place with strange man as in spending the night there,or change closes in front of him
And in my religion,it is HARAM to do so

İn your culture it is acceptable, and in your religion...mmm frankly i dont know...also i cant tell !
İs it acceptable ?!

So,i dont know how to explain to you then, that i do NOT accept to pray at same place side by side with men or in front of them
You wouldnt understand !:-S

I lived in Turkey for 1 year and was woken up nearly every night by ezan

Lucky You

Quoting Deli_kizin:

I think there are more people sleeping at 5 than waking up for ezan Isnt it a passage from Quran 'to you your religion, to me my religion' (something like this?). You can pray as long as you dont bother people who dont. But as you said, if they make rules according to sound and meters, it should not be a problem at all.

Yes its about different religions, not same one
İ mean ,Ezan will call,as Muslim you are free to pray or not 'its your personal freedom' but i believe you are not free to say stop Ezan because i want to sleep

Ohh,and btw,İ live in Egypt, and i hear Church bells every sunday at early morning and also at special events

And even christians are excused from work 2 hours late to pray, our week end at Cuma and Cumartesi,so they go to work late at sunday after their prayer,at same time Muslims go to work at regular time 8 am.

Canli....it is just a very different custom for us. As a Catholic, men and women all sit together and pray. Normally, I don't look around and pay attention to who is around me because when I am in church, naturally I pray. But you have to understand how being segregated would feel to an American Catholic. It is against every fiber of our being....that isn't saying that it is wrong for you...but it feels very wrong for us.

Sure Elisabith its different for you,and it should too
You are Christians and we are Muslims,we have different prayers
İf we have same,we would have same religion too.

İf i was supposed to sit and pray at mosque as you do in church,i would not have a problem to sit beside men side by side
But as you said it is different

Ok,let me explain it a bit more, when we pray, specially at Cuma or Bayram salat,it be very crowded, you stand and your body touching the body of the woman beside you
also when you kneel
So,actually i wont be feeling comfortable touching man!

Your prayer is different than ours,so your demandings and rules of prayer are different than ours too

Men together, and women together, not all mixed.

İ need to feel comfortable while im praying,i need to feel the spiritual of the mosque,to concentrate on my prayer,...ect
İf you know our prayer, you would know While we pray we dont look even beside us,so i cant have this while im surrounded by strange men and praying together side by side, and in front of me and behinde me !
İ would be a bit alarmed
İ dont want to be alarmed while im praying !
We come to PRAY together yes, this way i cant pray!

I guess if you lived close to a mosque and it was extremely loud, yes 5x day could be bothersom. But then again I imagine some people get use to it.

To Muslims its same like bells to Christians,a reminder of the time of prayers
İt shouldnt be a problem specially if it is organized
Means for each ...m2 there would be mosque who allowed to use a speaker at the degree of ..
İf locals want to build new one within same area, speakers are not allowed as i presume,İmam use his own voice without speakers to call for Sala 'prayers'

We did this here...and we dont EVEN hear it at nights
Government ordered İmamlar to reduce voices so they dont wake people up !

Azan is a call of prayer to remind people of the time of prayers, and to gather people 'who wants' to pray together at mosques.

Bir şey değil
Btw,is it hard language to learn it ?

I don't know, I haven't really given it a try yet and I odnt want to brag but usually Im pretty good at learning a new language, its my one and only talent though

But as far as I did, you really need some time to get used to the 'absence' of vowels and the usage of diacritics, and also all the different speech, because at my uni they teach the standard Arabic, which isnt necessarily daily speech everywhere even if the newspapers says so

Hmmmm,we do have vowels ,we have 'a,o,i'
But yes,i believe you need to get used to many things here

Btw,advice you the Egyptian delicate, maybe it wont make you understand all other delicates but SURE will make you understandable
standard Arabic will make you understandable every where too, wired but understandable
Good luck with your studies

İ wish to learn Turkish well first then later go for German 'i have some idea about it'or Spanish
