Well Yusuf, that was exactly right in older generations, and maybe yes still in some Categories of the society

But not common between educated girls, which are lots here in Egypt as you must know

They graduate from the Unis, and work, and sometimes earn more money than their fellows men colleagues do earn too

Those became old ideas to girls here, not working anymore,to find secure with a man you would marry

Because girls now more mature and know the only secure they would have,is the secure they provide themselves first, then what comes next will be sure welcome, but they are not depending on it.

İ am surprised that men still have those ideas !

You just need to look arround you more, and notice the changes there in girls minds

But i guess those ideas is more appealing to you men,,lol

Ok then, enjoy them

İ want to add something

Short infinitive is used with personalized usage, that is why we use the possessive pronouns

Long infinitive is used with generalized usage

For example,

Trafik kurallarına uymak gerek

Trafik kurallarına uymamız gerek

First one means, Following the traffic rules is a must
Second one means, WE should follow the traffic rules

As you see ,first one is a common rule,we are not addressing certain persons with it

But second sentence,we talking specifically to us

And so on

Quoting bod:

I am not an expert on this, but my understanding is that there are two infinitives in Türkçe - the full infinitive and the short infinitive.

There are 3 infinitives, not just 2,and the third doesn't use with all verbs but with some verbs only ,and it take the suffix Y(Iş )

Gitmak ....to go
Gidiş......departure

Gelmek....to come
Geliş.....coming,arrival

But it doesn't work with all verbs,it just work with verb which can describe the way of doing this verb

For example,

Gülmek...to smile
Gülüş....your way of smiling

(Senin) GülüşÃ¼n çok hoş

Your smile 'the way of smiling' is very nice

And so on

There was a previous discussion about that, and Erdinç explained it all
İf i find,i will post

Dear Christine,

Death is death every where, its same, but the difference here is people respond to it
As you can tell,Türk are emotional people, well comparing to Westerns i mean
So you can guess how would they respond,it would be very devastating
They would cry,and cry loud too,and maybe more 'even they shouldn't'
But usually men hide their feelings a bit in this part, but they feel same inside, some of them show it,and personally i guess that is better for them, and some hide it,and that is the hard thing

Another thing,by now,i guess you maybe understand family ties are very strong there
And to a son, father is more than just a father,he is an old friend too, which he can take advice and share with him, along with being a father too

So i am afraid that is going to be strong

My advice, that you stick beside your man, and be patient,he would be very stressed now,and he really need a shoulder to run to it,even he he may not ask
So he might be a bit nervous, and a bit angry, mad

You understand all of those, specially from what i read you are a teacher, its his anger from the situation,so you really need to have patient, and let him feel you are there with him no matter what

And if it happen'ALLAH Forbidden'he would need your shoulders to cry on,and i hope you manage to make him bring out his sorrow, which would be really great

Last advice, and sry that was long one

You said the are conservative Muslims

We have a believe in İslam, that is when a person dies, nothing anyone can do will help him there, except his good work, but his good work ofcourse will end when he pass,i mean he cann't make more good works,so he won't be benefit from it,except from 3 things are very useful for a died person

A good son, would keep praying for him son'kids, not meant only son,a daughter or even people who loves him'
A good work keep on going under his name,
And.... i don't remember the third thing
İ will ask and tell you

But as long as he has a good and he pray for him, this prayers will be helpful to him

Another thing,if you can do something good, useful to people,in his name
Anyone got a benefit from this thing,he will be rewarded for it

Example to make myself clear,

İf for instant, you give money regularly to a poor people,in his name,he will have the benefit from it there

İf you make a free water supply in the street, for thirsty people to drink from it,with each one he use it,the died person will have benefit of it,even he already died

Even if you plant a tree,as long as it is alive,he will continue to have benefit out of it

So mainly, you can see people while visiting the graves, they bring some plants and try to grow it there,or bring some plants which can live a long while

And so on...

Ohhh, and another thing, you can cry ofcourse, but better not cry with a high sound 'it shouldn't' because it could hurt the died person,he died yes,but they still can feel us

And mostly, when they put him in the grave yard, they stay with him for a while, maybe hour or more, its better for him too,and read Quran there, well not just better, but very very good to do this tho

İ hope that would be useful to you,if i remembered something else,i would tell you,and please feel free to ask

Hope ALLAH be with him and support him,and all his family ,amin

Quoting admin:

Bayramınız kutlu olsun. Happy bayram to all Turkish Class users.

Here are some basics for the ones pondering what this is all about:

Ramazan bayramı marks the end of the fasting month, Ramazan, for Muslims. After a month of fasting, the 3-day bayram is a time of celebration and social interaction. A typical bayram celebration in Turkey includes:

- Bayram prayer in the mosques, in the early morning of the first day of Bayram.
- Remembering the dead, visiting the graves of loved ones and praying for them.
- Visiting family and friends. Visits to especially parents and grandparents are very important in bayrams. Traditionally, kids kiss the hands of their older relatives, and the older ones kiss the kids back and give some pocket money and/or candies.
- Buying lots of candies and serving to visitors.
- Buying gifts for kids, especially new clothes (clothes bought for bayram are called bayramlık).
- Celebrating the bayram of everybody you know with a short visit, text messages, post cards or a phone call.

Bayrams are very important in Turkish culture. There is no work or school during these days, so this makes the whole thing even more exciting I won't be doing much of a celebration myself, but these are the basics for Ramazan Bayramı.

Not just kids admin, but for women too, NEVER forget that ,, lol

And how about money ? first day of bayram ?for kids ,AND women too ,,lol

İf she is married, her husband should buy new clothes, and give her money, first thing in the morning

İf she is not married, her Dad should do it,along with doing same to her Mom too ,,lol

Ohh and if she was engaged, woo hoooo, she is lucky,,lol

İ LOVE Bayram....good bargains there '-) lol
