The International Publishers Association (IPA) and the Writers in Prison Committee of International PEN strongly condemn the sentencing of publisher Ragip Zarakolu in stanbul on 17 June for "insulting the State" (Article 301 Turkish Penal Code - TPC). The organisations are especially alarmed that this is the first conviction since this article was slightly amended on 30 April 2008, after over 1,000 people, including writers, publishers and journalists, have been brought to the courts in the three years since its inception in 2005. IPA and PEN have been calling for the repeal of this law ever since it was presented in draft form, and are deeply disappointed that rather than remove this legislation, the amendments are simply cosmetic. Around 29 writers and journalists are on trial today under Article 301. They are among a total of 79 charged under a range of laws that impinge on the right to free speech, including Article 318 that has led numerous commentators on conscientious objection to the courts, and a raft of articles under Anti Terror legislation and against "incitement" that have been used against writers on the Kurdish issues. There is clearly much more to do to bring Turkey in line with its international requirements that safeguard free expression.

If you didn´t feel negatively about feminism then why did you feel the need to apologize for calling somebody a feminist? Or if you know a comment is going to be offensive, why did you have to make it to begin with? Obviously you didn´t care and your apology is meaningless.

Either way, I´m not going to argue with you about it. And trust me, I don´t care enough about what you think about feminists or feminism to "hate". I just resent such chauvinistic attitudes from a male and I see no reason why I shouldn´t mention that. Or would you prefer me to shut up and cook you a nice dinner? Oh yeah, you apologized so that´s ok. I, as a woman, am not supposed to have a problem with somebody thinking feminism is something negative and using that to berate another woman. How about those are women who respect the dignity of both males and females and consider them to have equal value as human beings. The woman in question happens to be smart, eloquent, funny and sucessful. And how would you feel if I said that my perception of Turks is sleezy horny pervs with greasy hair. And oh by the way, apologies to all the Turkish males here, it´s just my perception, I know it´s wrong, bla bla bla. Now let´s see if some sleezy perv is going to get angry.

P.S. The above is to illustrate a point, just in case some brilliant Turkish students will miss it and take it literally to be my opinion.

Laser pointer accused faces court

An overseas student has appeared in court accused of shining a laser pointer at a Qantas aircraft as it neared Adelaide.

Irfan Bozan, 26, of Salisbury East in Adelaide´s northern suburbs is charged with prejudicing the operation of an aircraft.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

He also is charged with acts to endanger life.

Bozan and another man were arrested at Victor Harbor, south of Adelaide, on Sunday night.

It is alleged they pointed a laser at the aircraft and at passing cars.

Bozan´s lawyer said his client thought the laser was a toy and did not think he had done any harm.

Bozan did not apply for bail and his lawyer said he required an interpreter.

He said Bozan was a Turkish student in Australia on a student visa.

Bozan was remanded in custody until next month.

I know tureng.com give ön bahçe as front yard, but I´m wondering if it wouldn´t sound better as:

Annesinin büyük evinin önündeki bahçedeyiz.

And also, for: Senin evinin anahtarý mutfak dolabýmýn en yüksek çekmecesinda. - I´m wondering if it shouldn´t be ev anahtarý instead of evinin anahtarý - the house doesn´t own the key, it´s the key to the house. Even in English I haven´t come across anybody saying the key of the house, it´s usually the house key or the key to the house.

As far as the suffixes I think all is correct.

Again, I´m a learner, so I could be wrong here. Maybe somebody more advanced or a native will double check.
