I think rather we would do well to consider just what is "education" What do you mean when you say someone is "educated"? I´m afraid many so called "educated" people are rather trained, like rats to run around the maze, or some other meaningless feat. Classic education was not vocational training, but rather the humanities and how to think.

Don´t we need artists? What is wrong with cleaning streets, getting married and being a homemaker? When all is considered, isn´t the thing most desired thing to have a good home?...to go home...the shipwrecked...the hostage....all dream of going home. Is there any more precious time spent than that being with loved ones, watching and guiding children, showing & sharing the wonder of things to a friend?

Quoting acute

I agree it is very sad but remember  they all can´t be doctors and engineers someone has to clean the streets and work at McDonalds to keep the smart ones comfortable also these are the people that keep Turkey stuck in the middle ages.

As for the woman it is typical and they don´t actually need higher education - I read a report that the woman even with a good education only wish for one thing {#emotions_dlg.holy} to get married and have a man look after them.

Tragic, I doubt the girl actually voluntarily accepts it, rather she feels, as damaged goods, she has to. This is changing now, people forget that in the West, sex before marriage was considered a "fate worse than death". It really wasn´t that long ago that those thoughts were dominant.

Any raped person deserves compassion and help, not to be treated as an embarassment. Rape really can happen to anyone, male or female. It is a dispictable act that has nothing to do with sex, but all to do with dominance and bullying.

Quoting si++

Yes it´s a reality. Still happens today. Sometimes the girl voluntarily accepts it and sometimes it happens against her will.

Rape is something different. A guy rapes a girl and goes to jail. The raped girl is seen as an ambarassment for her family. Sometimes the girl (forced by family) agrees to marry her rapist (They think that way the rape issue becomes a sex act between wife and husband and it´s not that ambarassing for them anymore) and the guy is released from the jail. (That happens.)

It´s easy to say Barba, when you don´t need dental care.  If you do need it, your wants may change. There is nothing like a good toothache, in fact they can kill, and to be sure, bad teeth do not make pretty. The pain is all but unbearable. Have you seen anyone with a bad abscess? Have you seen a swollen face from a bad tooth?

I don´t glorify Gadaffi, he did some horrible things, and he stayed in power too long, but I do think the people in Lybia are in for a shock when they taste the fruits of Capitalism.

Those who have, get to have more, those that don´t have, have less...I doubt if there would be much altruistic compassion towards the citizens of Lybia, were there not abundant petrol sources there.

I won´t dignify your demeaning trivialization of none European educational systems.

I will admit Holland has some enviable social institutions.

Quoting barba_mama

I´d rather be poor and free than have free dental care and live under a dictator. The "free" healthcare in Lybia was so bad, that anybody with a bit of money went to Egypt or Tunesia to get treatment. Also, putting the label "university" on something doesn´t make it of the international "university" level. I even see this difference between Holland and Turkey. Some of the things that are called "university studies" in Turkey are called "HBO" in Holland, which is one level lower than university. There was no starvation in Lybia? It was even used as a torture method by Khadaffi! Libya WAS a great country to live in... if you were related to Khadaffi...

Your source is disputable. Some guy who sent an email (yes, I googled where you got it from). To pretend that Lybia was some sort of heaven is an insult to all the people who suffered under Khadaffi, and double insulting to all the people who died by his hands during the last decades.

Hmmm....I think I understand. You do not mean they are really smart, but that they think they are being smart. These people think they are putting something over others. They are jerks.

I seriously feel sorry for any poor woman who marries her rapist. I have heard of the Turkish kidnap marriage though, it seems it was a tradition. Poor boy couldn´t afford the dowery. In these cases though, the woman collaberated. I even met a couple who were married in this way many years ago. She was engaged to someone, her husband kidnapped her (with her agreement). They have been married over 60 years, and happy.

I think it is similar to elopment. Of course there are out and out kidnappings that took place in the past, maybe today as well.

There were cases where women agreed to marry their rapists, so the rapist were not jailed. It is actually such cases that are being referred to.

Aren´t they trying to be smart(!). Have you noticed the (!)? Or should I have put (?) instead? Of course I don´t really mean they are smart.

I notice there is no mention as to the woman´s agreement or desire to marry the #@$% that raped or kidnapped her. It the rapist agrees to marry their victim????? GRRRRRR!!!!!

What do you mean..." There are a lot of smart guys....."? This is revolting.

Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors, or HSYK, has suggested reinstating a controversial law that acquits convicted rapists if they agree to marry their victims with the aim of speeding up the country’s slow-moving judicial process.

Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors, or HSYK, has suggested reinstating a controversial law that acquits convicted rapists if they agree to marry their victims with the aim of speeding up the country’s slow-moving judicial process.

The suggestion is just one of a number of recommendations made by judges and prosecutors who attended a series of meetings to discuss ways to speed up the judicial process in Turkey. The group’s findings have now been collected in a report entitled the “Situation Analysis in the Judiciary,” which will be relayed to the Justice Ministry and other relevant institutions, according to their order of priority.

Penalties for having sexual intercourse with consenting minors below the age of 15 also need to be lowered, according to one suggestion, while the HSYK chairman should symbolically be regarded as the president of the Republic, according to another.

The report also includes a suggestion to reinstate a now defunct law that suspended a convict’s sentence for five years if he agreed to marry a woman he kidnapped. If a sentence is suspended, perpetrators do not have to serve for the period given unless they commit another crime that span, in which case they will have to serve both sentences.

There are a lot of smart(!) guys in Turkia looking for improvements(!).

Sarkisian complains about ‘Turkish blockade’

Armenia’s President Serge Sarkisian addresses the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The Armenian president says his country has no other choice than nuclear energy because of ‘Turkish blockade.’ AFP photo

Armenian President Serge Sarkisian claimed Armenia is under the blockade of Turkey and Azerbaijan, during his address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, while Azerbaijani parliamentarians said they were not able to ask their questions during the session Wednesday.

Armenian President said the Armenian-Turkish normalization process ended up in a “deadlock.” Sarkisian also blamed Turkey for not recognizing the 1915 events as “genocide.”

“Turkey still not only fails to recognize, but also denies the genocide conducted by the Ottomans in 1915. We are determined not to leave this issue unsolved for the next generations,” Sarkisian said.

Wow! Turkie fails to recognise the "so-called" genocide, even denies it.

Jealous wife deprived Turkish imam of penis

ANKARA. - Imam of Golbasi village of Turkish Bursa province lost his manhood after his sideways adventures became known to his wife.

The Imam promised to end the relationship, however, a few days later, as his wife was checking the history of SMS messages of her husband, she came across the following message: "My love, I miss you."

The furious wife grabbed a kitchen knife, entered the bedroom where her husband slept and cut off his penis.

In the hospital they sew Imam’s penis back. As for the jealous spouse, the court released her on bail.
