Quoting Kadir37:

Can you understand Turkish newspapers?

http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/anasayfa/

Hurriyet is the only Türk newspaper I have attempted to read - I can get a general idea about what is being said but it takes me a very long time and lots of looking at the dictionary........

I generally take at least an hour to understand a short paragraph

So I consider Hurriyet to be advanced (for me)

Quoting Deli_kizin:

If someone asks: "Who is this", you'll probably answer with: that is my mother.

On the other hand.. you'd say: "O kim?" Tho it's not so far away?

Would I be better off forgetting about şu for the timebeing and just using bu and o as direct equivilents for English this and that? Then let şu come into my vocabluary as I get more exposed to Türkçe......

kahven or kahvesin?

Surely:

kahven - your coffee (the coffee belonging to you)
kahvesin - you're coffee (coffee is what you are)

The latter of course doesn't make sense......
