I agree with Sophie, Istanbul is became more and more expensive. In any case I would never change it with any other city in the world! By the way what about prices in Cappadocia? I will go there on July

To be honest, I like to see the covered women on the Turkish roads. It is so traditional! I have also seen a little girl covered but she seems to had no problem, playing with uncovered kids near Golden horn. If a woman likes to be covered, then what is the problem? On the other hand, the god is in us, we can adore him as we wish, with no labels. In fact, any time I am outside a cami, I feel to make my cross, as being in a church!

As I am visiting Istanbul at least once a month, I will arrange my holidays to Cappadocia (not Istanbul as usual). I will go there by the end of July with my husband to celebrate our first anniversary. We have promised to be every year somewhere in Turkey on this date, so as to remember our wonderful wedding in Istanbul.

Interesting topic. The aircraft incident over the disputed waters of the Aegean and the earlier burning of the Turkish flag in Athens must have soured relations between the two countries but I wonder what happens when Greece meet Türkiye on the football field at either club or national level. Do the opposing supporters get on well?

You are right Joey. That's exactly why k-georgia in her post mentioned that we do need this hope now. Cause our relationships again are tensed. You know, it only takes a small spark and in no time the flames come to swallow us all. But i m optimistic. This whole thing will pass, as soon as those stupid reporters find something else to fanaticize the mass with...

As for football, well... even two teams of the same country fight in a match. How much more, when they are playing versus a foreign team from a foreign country. Hell!
But the last match that was held on greek ground, (I think it was about 2 years ago, but i cant comprehend the teams now) was a really peaceful match with respect from both sides.

Joey, I can propose another thing to ask us ...What happens when Greek people meet Turkish people and share raki together, talking about everything and saying jokes... The answer is only one (for me at least) : I have never been so close to people from other countries as I have been to Turkish. And I believe that most of Greeks who had a contact with Turkish have the same idea. Sometimes I am just thinking that if this tense get worst, its so normal to worry about my beloved friends in Turkey, than about a Greek that I have never met. Because , the point is not the borders and the nations but the humans and souls. There are not bud and good nations , there are just humans, as my favorite writer Aziz Nesin used to tell.

Thank you Sophie I will try to find it in Greek also. Exactly our ideas! We have nothing to share with people so similar to us, so close to us. I believe that the only way to change our minds is the two people to be closer. If a Greek has a contact with a Turkish, they will feel like brothers, believe me... In fact they are the only ones who are lauphing with the same jikes with us !

Konat You might know that after this event in Sivas, Aziz Nesin told that "from now on I will be alone, I do not want the deaths of others instead of mine". Aziz Nesin's books was on of the reason that I learn Turkish. So as to read the originals. Konat, I hope to meet you in the Foundation someday, they have a fabulus festival on Children's Day, April 23

If anybody knows the famus Turkish writer Aziz Nesin, may also know the Nesin Foundation.
Nesin Foundation has been established on 1972 by Aziz Nesin in the town of Catalca, 40km from Istanbul. The purpose of the Foundation was the "hospitality" of poor children all around Turkey.
Nowadays about 45 children are living in the foundation, ages from 2 to 26. The staff of the Foundation are volunteers who give all their love and care to these children.
The only income of the Foundation are the donations from people all around the world and the income from Aziz Nesin's books as well.
I have visited the Foundation last month, and I was so surprised of that nice place, it seems like a big house for a very big family. The children there are growing up near the nature and have a lot of alternatives for their free time after school ( ceramik workshop, wood workshop , painting, learning chess are some of them). The other thing surprised me was the number of books in the two libraries of the Foundation, so many books for all the ages!
I think it will be very interesting to have a look in the Foundation's official page (in Turkish):

çok tesekkür ederim,
Georgia

He has founded in 1972, a Foundation (Nesin Vakif) in Catalca for poor children. I hope that all the Turkish people will visit the foundation some day

Istanbul is the most beautiful city in whole world (and I have traveled a lot, believe me ). I hope to go there someday and never come back again. Every time I leave Istanbul my heart is staying there I will be there in July and having my wedding ceremony in Edirnekapi It is not because I am so religius so as to get married in Patriarchate but because it is THE only way to have my wedding in my dearest city All you live there are soooo lucky that I envy you!
