Basic personal freedom of lettuce usage is taken away from Britons:

A West Midlands sandwich bar worker who was prosecuted after footage of him stuffing lettuce up his nose appeared on YouTube has avoided a jail term.

And it´s a well known custom to be polite to waiters/waitresses in restaurants here, for obvious reasons

I found this site:

http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-465200-1-1-Travel-0-0-Turkey-discussion.html?s=1

and someone replied to my question in detail.  What I like about the site was that people seem to have put their life history on there.  The guy that replied to me is elderly and his profile details his wedding, his family, his military service etc.  It made interesting reading from a historical point of view.

The site isn´t only for tourists to Turkey, but anywhere in the world.

Anyway anyone who wants to visit Cappadocia  by bus  from just about anywhere in Turkey, here´s the bus timetable:

Thanks everyone.  As I will be travelling alone, I think an organised tour will be best but I am on a budget and wasn´t sure how much this would cost.  I´ve managed to find accommodation for 20 euros a night and the reviews of the place were good.  I´ll soon find out for myself!

I´ve emailed the hotel and asked if they can provide information about the bus service between Konya and Goreme.  I have to return to Konya because I am flying there from Istanbul courtesy of my accumulated airmiles with THY.

Libralady . . . paragliding? . . .and  again? . . . are you mad!!!!

Thanks Trudy.   I´ve booked my hotel already and they have sent me details of tours, but no prices, so your information is useful.  I have the TTP site but have een unable to find bus routes apart from Istanbul to just about anywhere.  Anyway, it gave me some great information for the journey to Edirne that I´ll be making from Istanbul.

Thanks again

As part of my trip in April, I´m spending 3 nights in Goreme, Cappadocia after visiting Konya.  I had a bookmarked site that had details of buses  around Turkey but I seem to have lost it.  Has anyone ever made this trip by bus and if so can they let me know the details of the bus company etc.?

Also, is it advisable to take a guided tour around Cappadocia or is it possible to go it alone?  Anyone know how much the tours are?

If anyone has any suggestions for what to visit I would be glad to read them.  Please don´t mention balloons though, I´ll never go up in one of those things {#lang_emotions_scared}

Many thanks

Personally, I don´t see the point in making complaints to admin, so I don´t.  Really there is no deterrent anyway.  If a member is deleted they simply join again, and again . . .

We looked at 6 boats in two different locations........

Most of the day the weather was poor - but every time we got out of the car to look at a boat the weather turned really nasty

The boats were:

1 - very nice but not really suitable for living aboard.  More like a family holiday boat.  Very nice double bed with a post in the corner

2 - obviously been built and fitted out by a family for living aboard.   Some very nice features but a bit tatty (not a problem) but with lots of wasted space like a HUGE kitchen area and an 8 foot section with absolutely no purpose.  But a boat with lots of character.   And the only one I looked at with a full size bath and a washing machine.

3 - shabby but with potential.  The big disadvantage being the the solid fuel stove was part way down the living area which would make having occasional bed space awkward.

4 - very basic - but nice.  I rather liked this boat but had very little scope for having visitors aboard and it had very little storage space.

5 - immediately fell in love with the living area and kitchen.  But then there was a walk-through loo/bathroom to get to the back and the bathroom was tatty and very basic.......not an arrangement I like!

6 - lovely living area and kitchen with a high level oven and microwave.  Very well fitted out but with another walk-through bathroom but much better than the previous boat.   Only 2 real issues with this one.......it was right at the top of my price range and it had no central heating so no heat in the bedrooms.

I saw no boat that I really totally fell in love with

But it has shown me that there may well be a boat out there that I can live on, will fall in love with, and that I can afford - it is just a matter of finding it!!!

Well at least you weren´t put off.  probably a good idea to go in bad weather, it shows them in their worst light. If that didn´t put you off you must be keen.

I remember having a girls´ holiday on the broads a few years ago.  The boat had three bedrooms, a galley kitchen, shower room and a living area.  My bed was right on top of the engine!!!  I had the job of cleaning out the sump every morning .  It was a great holiday though.

Happy hunting anyway and glad you seemed to have a great day.

Tomorrow I am hoping to go and look at canal boats........

Having had a fire at home a few weeks ago and therefore being effectively homeless at the moment, I am thinking I might use the money I get from insurance to buy a boat and move out of the city

How did you get on?

Hmmm so you don´t want to talk about this subject anymore?

Aenigma, I gave details of a personal experience of how Muslims at my school join in with charitable fundraising in my school, throughout the year.  From there, you went  on your own personal crusade and Canli clarified aspects of Zakat and Sadaqa as a response.

If you bemoan the fact that Muslims don´t do enough goodwill acts then I might post an example I have seen in the news (yes . . . there´s not enough reporting about them . . . it doesn´t sell newspapers) or I might give you a personal experience of mine. Anything further than that, I am not prepared to discuss and I don´t care about your view of me or your accusations about me because it doesn´t alter anything in my life.

Of course I´m huffing and puffing, it comes to us all here from time to time and I don´t mind admitting it.

So. . . no, I don´t wish to talk about the subject anymore and something tells me I´m an idiot for even replying to you now.

So, having established that I´m fed up with this and your pleased about it, perhaps we can let it die a death (once you´ve responded).

"Phew!"  (I always wanted to say this)
