Quoting Annette Faye

I met my friend on a social network last year, and since then have taken our conversations to msn. We talk anywhere from 4-12 hours daily, depending on the time zone. I´m finally going to Turkey and he´s meeting me at the airport, taking a 5 hour train to get there. We will spend three days in Ankara. After that we will go stay with his elder brother and new wife for one week, and then home to meet his parents and other relatives.  At the beginning of our special friendship we spoke of love, and I admit that I do love him very much. Now he says we are "two good friends". Is it customary for "two good friends" to stay with his elder brother and new wife, and then home to the parents? I´m so confused. And does the one good friend always ask "where are you?" "what are you doing?" "Are you home?" "When will you be home?" I thought those kinds of questions in a Turkish guy were reserved for more intimate relationships.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but the situation does not sound promising..

When did he start to say you are "two good friends"? Before making all those arrangements -meeting his parents specially- or after? Something does not sound right ..

Huh.... what does an old, fat French actor have to do with it?

Of course him being fat, old and french nothing to do with it..

Possibly he has some Armenian friends and he is talking about the subject with no serious knowledge..

However, the stress in my post was nothing to do with him being fat and French..

I know it sounds strange but according to some turkish sources

http://www.haberturk.com/dunya/haber/549510-gerard-depardieu-ankara-soykirimi-taniyacak

That is what Gerard Depardieu said "Turkey has  launched the process of recognizing Armenian Genocide".

I am not sure if it will be in the form of "recognizing it" but something has to be done in this issue.

I tried to write about it in my column (http://www.turkishclass.com/columns/thehandsom/2010/06/25/armenian-question-iv-final-)

...So in my opinion, as far as the Armenian problem is concerned, I think we are approaching a culminating moment. I think that this issue won’t be a problem anymore in the coming years. (Obviously, we could not persuade the world with our thesis. Year after year, the number of countries accepting the event of 1915 as a genocide is increasing..)

I think there are some people in the Foreign Ministry who see that this is not a way in which we can continue. Something has to change. Something has to change because of the constant burden of humiliation the foreign ministry personnel face in  first hand.

When Alexander the great once said  ´Ohhh deus. Vos es sic magnus´, which can be translated into English as ´Ohhh God, you are so big´, he would not have imagined, thousands of years later, those words would be quoted in a language learning website nor he knew anything about the structure of DNA or how stars are formed. would he say the same thing if he had any knowledge? Possibly would, as he was not talking about the god when he uttered those words (if he ever said them!!)..

Actually, what we know today is not leaving any gap for God to be squeezed anymore as far as the science concerned..

We know that there was no creation because ´what we know´, not ´what don´t know´..

We know DNA, we know how life forms are evolved, we know how planets are formed, we have strong ideas /theories about big bangs etc..

Basically, science will never ever or can never ever prove the the existence of God(s).

All those people said this and that etc many many moons ago when they had no idea about what we know today. They are not relevant with today´s philosophy, today´s life and no ethical problems were answered by any of the religions in my view..

I think in the end, if people show more courage and play less in the  spiritual safe lounge of ´there is a god club´, will be better..

All those indoctrination, generations after generations, make people ´leaving their options open´.. They are still scared to come out fully..

I think that is the reason why we hear, ´I am fond of God but not religion´.. ´I am waiting for religion to prove there is one´ etc..

Actually, a few years ago there was this campaign (there is probably no god):

But, i think the time has come to get rid of the word ´probably´ as far as science is concerned..

I still dont understand people why they are trying to include the science into a dogma like religion belief..

Religions are not compatible with science..

They never were and they will never be..

There is a saying in Turkish ´you can not say "I would like to have a seat behind the driver but not over the wheel"´.

Cheerleaders absent for Turkey matches at World Basketball Championships

The absence of scantily clad female cheerleaders at recent World Championship basketball matches involving host nation Turkey has raised eyebrows in the overwhelmingly Muslim but officially secular nation.

.....

Troupes of energetic cheerleaders have entertained the crowds at matches involving other teams in the tournament, but no dancers appeared during Turkey´s match against Greece on Tuesday nor their match against Russia on Sunday.

The Russia match was attended by Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and his wife, who wears the Muslim headscarf.

"Are cheerleaders not allowed for Turks?" asked news website Gazeteport on Wednesday.

Below is a Turkish source: it says ´instead of cheerleaders, Bulent Arinc , who is Deputy Prime minister in the government, will be reading poetry during the breaks for motivation´ lol

Stephen Hawking: God did not create Universe

The Universe can create itself from nothing, says Prof Hawking

There is no place for God in theories on the creation of the Universe, Professor Stephen Hawking has said.

..But in a new book, he concludes the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics.

The Grand Design, part serialised in the Times, says there is no need to invoke God to set the Universe going.

"Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something," he concluded.

I do actually. If you think I´m wrong, pick up a history book once in a while. You might agree with me afterwards. And try picking up one that is more neutral, and not "all hail Turkey, we love Ataturk" drenched.

+1000

I dont think you are wrong!!

There are many in Turkey who brainwashed till their last brain cells.

They dont really know Ataturk. They never ever understood him and they will never understand him. They worship him without knowing/realizing, he himself wanted to stop Turks ´worshiping people´.
