Why do some people behave as I have to "choose my side" when I object something? Yes, once I called this website "anti-democtratic" !

Does it mean I am Gokuyumratic or Spritzeratic or whatever is it? What a nonsense this is! My reaction was personal and didn´t defend anyone! This is your logic and you show it; don´t behave people as if they are part of a "side".

With Respects,

"Var ya!" is an injection. According to dictionary, it means "you know what!"

In Turkish,

1) We use it when we are angry and want to say a bad word, but when we can´t say!

Var ya...!

2) And when we are very surprised and could find nothing to say:

Var ya! Ne diyeyim artık! (I can find nothing to say!)

thx

Quoting yilgun-2010

Evliliğin Faziletleri:

Bir bilge kişi gençlere şöyle demiş:

- "Evlenin, evlenmek çok kutsal bir müessesedir.

Karınız iyi çıkarsa mutlu olursunuz; kötü çıkarsa

filozof olursunuz"

-"Evlendiğin kadını anlamaya çalışma, çünkü anlayamazsın.

Onu sadece sev..."

A sophisticated says to teenagers;

Get married, because marriage is a holy house. If you wife is well-mannered, you feel happy. If not, you become a philosopher.

Don´t try to understand the woman who you got married; because you can´t.

Just lover her.

my try, thx,

Thread: Turkish pronunciation - similar to Spanish?

Quoting Doriss

I keep being told by my ´Turkish´ friends that the pronunciation is similar to Spanish, so I´ve been trying to learn - but I get corrected by them so often that I beg to differ.  Is there any site that has an audio of the letters and the sounds? - obviously, I´m still not getting it.

You can have a simple idea about pronunciation by listenin music.

In my posts in this section, there are lyrics and web links that you can listen by internet. Maybe this may provide you to have an idea about pronunciation of Turkish.

thx

I´m not picking on you - promise - but I think the word you want here is ´equivalent´ - the miş structure doesn´t have a clear equivalent in English´

Thanks LIR, to be honest, I was not sure if "clear respond" was correct. Thanks for the help !

Thread: Ziynet Sali - Herkes Evine!

A nice song from Ziynet Sali;

HERKES EVİNE

Dön artık çok uzatmadan,
Ne varsa kalbini kıran,
Çekinme bu buluşmadan,
Herkes evine!

Zoruma gidiyor bu acı,
Aşkının en güzel tarafı,
Anladım farklısın,
Sen gidince...

Tadımı bozuyor bu acı,
Özgür olmanın tasası,
Kesmedi beni, ne boş,
Sen gidince...

Bu yüzden geç kalıp yeterince,
Düzelince, sana ben kalamadım.

Dön artık çok uzatmadan,
Ne varsa kalbini kıran,
Çekinme bu buluşmadan,
Herkes evine!

And translation:

Turn back before it´s late,
Whatever hurts your heart,
Don´t hesisate from this meeting,
Everybody to home!

This pain hurts me,
The best side of your love,
I saw it, you are different,
When you are gone...

This pain spoil my enjoyment,
Thought of being free,
Didn´t satisfy me,
When you are gone.

That´s why as we are late enough,
When it clears up, I couln´t remain to you.

Turn back before it´s late,
Whatever hurts your heart,
Don´t hesisate from this meeting,
Everybody to home!

Note: "herkes evine" means "everybody, mind own businnes." in this song.

and the lyrics that you can listen:

Really??? lol

Ah..Of course, some men holding hands and walking like that on the streets is touching  your secular Turkish pride.. is it?

So they only shake hands for a few seconds..that is all? is it?

Come on, you like it or not, some men hold hands and walk holding hands in Turkey.. It is not very common but it happens sometimes...

But so what?

What is to be ashamed of it?

Why are you turning it into a political discussion? What is it about "secular pride"?

I have added three new lessons in my class;

Heard Past Tense with -miş; Negative, Question and Conjugated Forms of -miş and Some Useful Prepositions and Conjuctions.

-miş structure doesn´t have a clear respond in English, that´s why it was little difficult for me to tell and explain it. I hope it helps you. Lessons are in progress, new lessons are going to be added in coming days.

Thx
