Yes, but that was not Turkish Airlines, it was Onur Air; a company with earlier problems which made that they were put on the black-list of many European countries and they lost their landing rights for sometime in 2005.

Did anyone else hear about the baggage handlers leaving the door open, and the plane having to land just after taking off?

did anyone else find the image of this funny?

Strange kind of fun you like. If they couldn't have landed probably the cabin pressure would have gone away and I read in Dutch newspapers there was a chance the plane had to had a forced landing or crashed with possible deaths!

My hubby told me it was Turkish Airlines he heard it on the news on DigiTurk, I'm confused now! :-S

Maybe he heard 'a Turkish airline'? See this: http://aviation-safety.net/news/newsitem.php?id=1748

There are more accidents in car-traffic each year than in air-traffic. And I don't think (hope) that will make you not to use a car, bus or taxi in daily life. Will that reassure you?

A plane of Turkish Airlines (from Istanbul to Oslo) has landed beside the air strip, caused by ice on that strip. All 156 passengers could get safe out of the plane. The aircraft will get technical inspection.

Both these posts seemed really strange to me! Friendly airline crew do not ensure a safe flight! To not check simple things like doors being shut in baggage holds seems like a very BIG negligance to me and I would be concerned about their safety procedures until they are reviewed. Accidents happen to anyone yes, but why increase your probability?

Put it this way - if you had a choice to ride in a car with a advanced experienced driver or to get a ride in a car driven by someone who had had accidents before and neglected the safety of their car - which would you choose?

Exactly my point. You could never get me on an Onur-air aircraft, eventhough I heard they have been removed from the black-list. But I would not fly with a company that has such a history. Id rather pay a little more.

ok..let's say your house is on a main road and there was an accident last week on the road..does that mean you won't park your car there, walk outside or drive down that road..

sure reduce risks of accidents within your control but let's not all become obsessed with these rare occurences.

An accident on the road would not necessarily be the road's fault!!! So why avoid it.

All I am saying is, if you are trusting your safety to an airline, make sure they have a good record in safety-checks and procedures - it makes sense. Also, why reward slack companies with your business?

The black list of airline companies you can find at: http://www.newssafety.com/stories/insi/flywell_list_en.pdf
I don't think these airlines will be a real option, most of them are from countries in Africa. So not really anything to worry about. You can find also information at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3379773.stm

You certainly have SusieK!! We flew with Pegasus last year and blow me if the pilot landed too fast and missed the exit runway at Norwich airport, granted it is a small airport, but bloody hell you dont go so fast! Everyone were grabbing their seats ready to brace and we all clapped when he finally stopped feet from the grass and turned the plane around on a sixpense and headed back to where he should have been!

I'm not afraid to fly (though I am not a big fan either) but with an experience like yours or one like libralady had, I think I never would fly anymore!
