I hate it! Everyone feels obliged to buy a card and present, restaurants charge triple the amount they normally do, and its not AT ALL romantic!

I would rather someone told me they loved me because THEY WANTED TO, not because Hallmark greeting cards say THEY HAVE TO

I loved the original reason for it - it was for people who wanted to get together with someone to declare their love (mostly anonomously). Not for people already together to send cards offfffff!

What do YOU think?

lol!!! To funny aenigma... who can argue with that logic. Are you the Valentines day scrooge It is definatly over rated, not to mention I sure as hell don't want any chocolate after gaining my holiday weight. I'm on a diet, so the people in my life have been warned!

I am not a scrooge. I love to buy surprise presents and cards - not EXPECTED ones!!! And its got so crazy - I saw cards recently like "Happy Valentines day to my Best Friend", "Happy Valentines Day to my Mum" and even "Happy Valentines day to my Dog"!!!

No chocolates? Ooops. Is it too late to cancel the box I sent you and your "Happy Valentines Day to my TC Friend" Card?

Exactly, I love to shop and suprise even on Christmas I go crazy, but it is weird that now there are cards even for coworkers and such, as if I haven't spent enough for xmas. So you bought me that Happy V-day to my TC friend one huh? I think I saw that right next to the Happy V-day to My Garbage Man one, how sweet of you I certainly hope it was diet chocolates only

Diet ones?

And...... I HATE ROSES! Offffff, again they suddenly charge triple for a horrible "forced into bud" red rose that never actually opens into a flower because it's been so hastily grown... and roses are horrible horrible, blousey, insipid, unoriginal flowers!!!

Ummm...however I am not averse to receiving tulips or white cala lily's.....

What?!?!?!?!?!
Sorry ladies...I love Valentine's Day!

Still love the day and yes..I love roses and chocolates and well....just a wonderful day to express love.

But, then I'm big on Christmas and Thanksgiving too....so I guess i'm just a holiday fanatic!!!!

Any reason to eat...and something sweet too!!! IT'S ALL GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But in my family we aren't so traditional...we call aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, mom etc. and send valentine's to them too! So it's a family love day...not just the romantic one.

In my country Valentine's Day was never a big deal so I don't care about that in particular but it happens so that we have a tradition of going ice skating and various other things on that day so that's why it's special to us.

Capo we have the same conviction about all occasions not only valentine's day. I dont get tired or bored when i buy gifts for everybody specially choossing novelty items. I send fresh flowers to all my friends.

But why? Isn't Valentines Day supposed to be about the one you love? Offfff we dont do this in the UK - I dont really understand why you would buy friends and parents things on Valentines Day! Don't parents already have Fathers and Mothers Day?

Hehe whatever, I hope you have a good one. It justs seems really strange to me :-S

I simlpy do not understand why there should be a certain day to celebrate love...with cards, red roses, red hearts, red...everything (I guess I am also a scrooge )

In Romania we used to celebrate the "Martisor" on the 1st of March, when girls were given little, symbolic things (in shape of clover, snowdrop, chimney-sweeper) tied with white and red strings to symboize the coming of spring and love. Girls used to wear the white and red string tied up onto thier wrists as a token of love.

When I love someone I don't need that "one special day" to show him how much I love him, I'd try to make every day Valentine's day

I've seen couples on Valentine's day in restaurants, staring at the wall, staring at their glasses as if there is something very interesting to be found there, staring at anything and anyone except eachother, trying to avoid to have to look eachother in the eyes and not knowing what to say to eachother.. That's a downright horror image to me

İ agree presents,cards,..ect making that day a boring one and same as other days we celebrate them.
Roses i welcome them anytime,as long as they delivering a message to me

And i agree too,i don't have to have a special day to show my love, but
İ would like to have a day,it can be all about love, our love, spend it together, share it really together, flying, dancing, celebrating our love.
A day where you can find other couple beside you maybe sharing same looks together, where you can smell love in the air

Not some boring restaurants stuff. offff

Ps:But cards, and presents are importants in long distance relationships, gives the meaning of sharing,i guess.

yeh, i agree too. why should you be obliged to show your love on this one day? love should be shown all year round, not just on one day.

WOW! I jus read all the posts...it's amazing how many don't like this date or the idea...

Hmmm...very strange...

Well...to each his/her own...

I guess that means more roses and chocolates for me!!!

And yes...I express love to all my family members.

I guess 'cause it isn't just a romantic date for me. It's a special day to reflect on love and that for me 'love' is for all those that I love.

I guess I'm a love fanatic...Thank God my family and my special one is too!

And many are right. People shouldn't wait for the 14th to express love...it should be done everyday.

Well dont get me wrong Capo, I used to love Valentines Day when it was just about telling someone you loved them.

However I refuse to let Hallmark Cards try to make it a generalised "love" day - family love, pet love hehehehe! They have destroyed the meaning of Valentines Day.

I can't imagine sending my boyfriend a Mother's Day card, so why would I send my mother a Valentine's card? hehehe! lol

hehehehehehehehe!!! Well maybe you could send him a really sappy..."Hopefully you'll make me a mother one day" card or something along those lines or how about a "I know you love your mommy" card! I'm sure Hallmark is thinking of ways to get you to buy a card for him too!!!!! Marketing is a *****!!!

By the way...if you don't feel like buying something...honey don't do it! I am sure you won't be alone in your boycott! lol

It is a rip off.... I just asked for a silk rose I'm collecting them now, they don't die and still look lovely!
Cheap and cheerful. Although I will add that my birthday is on the 17th so we tend to combine a meal out for that, my hubby said that in a way he finds it wrong that "THEY" tell you that you have to express your love on one day of the year, that we should express it whenever we want and I agree. I'd rather get the little notes and gifts spontaneously all year than everything on one day. At least you know it's real....................................

exactly!+1 if u ask me every day is love day and so it should be
