Can I ask a silly question? How do you ACTUALLY use the Dolmus?

Last time I was out in Turkey a group of us hired a car so I've never actually used one! Next time I have no choice!

Do you literally put your hand out and it stops for you?

Do they have specific routes like they do here in the UK?

and more importantly how do you get off one?

Yes there's nothing more to it than get on and off whenver you'd like, they will stop for you, and they always have fixed routes like regular buses.

yep

and each dolmus has a plaque that says where the dolmus goes to...
if you wanna get off you can say 'musait bir yerde indirir misiniz?' or 'inecek var'

Thanks for that. Don't know why but its something I've wanted to avoid doing! lol. Wrong stop, wrong route, wrong money etc. Now I've got no choice

I'll give it a go and see where I end up!

'İnebilir miyim' sounds easier to me İf you ask that, the driver will stop as soon as he can to let you off, you can also ask more specific like 'Köşede inebilir miyim?'.

The prices for dolmuş vary between 1.50 and 1.75 (rare occassion), depending on the route it takes and where you get on. If ıts crowded and hard to stay on your feet, dont bother to walk and give the driver the money: by saying 'Uzatır mısınız?' and giving the money to the person in front of you, it will just be passed on to the driver. I really like it, you even get your change back perfectly!
