I have lived in turkey now for over a year, and I love it.
Ofcourse there is many challengers but nothing i couldn´t handle. Regarding healthcare I took out an insurance from home(denmark) for 6 months and when that expired I got one from an turkish insurance company and that is working fine. I have a turkish bank, and it is just as easy to get an account here as it is at home, all you need before is a tax number which is also easy to get.

Ofcourse you will have to apply for a visa, but I can't help you there, but you can check with the turkish embassy in your country, because it is different depending on which country you come from.

I started living in Alanya but moved to Antalya 4 months ago.

You proberly have a lot of other questions, so just send me a private message.

Hi Melek
I have been here for donkeys years ! my advise to you is:

a) make sure you have medical insurance in place - a good one here is YapiKredi Sigorta.

b) be sure to locate local groups of people from your own country. If you are from the UK coming to Istanbul or Antalya, there are tons of ex-pat groups and societies. establishing friendships with fellow countrymen is a must because although I love my Turkish family and friends incredibly and unbelieveably so, there are certain ways and habits that one cannot give up - such as they way we have conversations or discuss issues - that really you feel comfortable talking to fellow Brits, Danes etc.... (even my wonderful hubby needs time off from me and to be with his own Turkish friends - it is healthly and good for him)

c) maintain hobbies and activities. I spent a long time here not knowing what to do or where to go, as you, I came here to be with my man ! Men (from every country) tend not to have a clue why women like hobbies, talking and doing things !!! lol ha ha ha, so get yourself informed about what is going on in the area you are planning to live in. check out mymerhaba.com

I hope this helps a little.

A good bit of advice is contained in todays column by Charlotte in Todays Zaman: Click here

(PS: before anyone else tells you, she is my business partner in Greenhouse bookstore, but I think you will agree it is good advice for anyone moving abroad.)

ın my opinion one of the best way to do this is to learn and understand the Turkish language and Turkish Culture.
