Hi,
Me and My Turkish girlfriend are due to move to Istanbul early next year. My Girlfriend has heard that it is hard to find a job when you are over the age of 27. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this? We will both be over this age when we go.
Cheers

It is true if you want to be a professional bellydancer. Other than that, I don't know.

Badiadancer74 I'm sorry to contradict you , but some of the most famous and successful dancers are well over that age, and they started their careers later than that. I know...but won't tell who they are

I know Birgul is one who is still dancing. That was just the cut off age I was told. Asena looks well over that age as well. Those are famous dancers, I'm talking your regular dancer.

Two of my girlfriends are in their 40s and working over there teaching at different schools. One for an english school and one for a private childrens school so, yes is the answer to your question.
You can find work there. I have noticed that sometimes ads state ages from 20 - 35 but I dont believe that people ONLY look for these age limits.
Look on http://istanbul.craigslist.org/ and http://www.expatriates.com/
There are jobs there apartments to rent and other things you may need info on.
I hope this helps.

It is true. Employers want younger people. Most turks are forced to retire after working 20 years. So for many this is as early as 40 or 41. I have seen mnay job advertisements that limit applicants to those under 24 or 25. Good luck!

I actually prefer knowing there are laws in the US that will protect me from age discrimination in the workplace. I can't even imagine posting a job opening and including an age requirement!!

I do consider myself very very lucky and yes we do have healthcare and social services, but i have to contibute a large amount of money out of my wage every week to pay for these. Some people and this is people of all nationalities including some lazy british, use and abuse these service without ever having made any contributions whatsoever or any intention of contributing.

People that misuse the system come every day to the Mental Health Center where I work. They don't even bother coming in for their appointments because 1. it is free 2. we have to continue to see them if they are on state funded insurance! A lot of times they will try to get money from their child's 'mental health problem'. Some of these people's entitlement makes me sick. Some of them are so fat and lazy, would rather have their kids live in poverty than get out there and work. Grrrr. How do you continue to weigh 350 pounds and be so poor??? Some people really need it, don't get me wrong, but isn't it sad people will play up a 'disability' for $600/month. In Turkey this sounds good, here 1 person can't live on that...let alone a whole family. Sorry, I should have started another thread for my rant.
